Kakegurui Twin season 2 remains TBA, but we're all-in on renewal ... (HITC)

Kakegurui Twin has just launched worldwide on Netflix, but what do we know so far about season 2 of the prequel spin-off anime?

As previously noted, both seasons of the main Kakegurui anime had 12 episodes, but Twin only released with six. The top review on MyAnimeList currently describes Kakegurui Twin season 1 as, “Its underlying theme is “Fun with crazy Anime girls” and it does that part great. “MAPPA trademark visual flair can be found in it’s Jazzy opening, absolutely bop of an ending and the over the top characters does their job to deliver the fun you want to see. Want to watch some CGDCG (Cute girls doing crazy gambling) with some Yuri in the mix? In the final moments of “A Resisting Girl”, after the ending theme song, we see Juraka and Mibuomi talking about Mary. Episode six concluded by adapting up until volume 3 chapter 14 of the original manga series; however, as of August 2022, 12 complete Tankobon volumes across 81 total chapters have been published in Japan.

Kakegurui Twin Season 1 Review - An average-at-best prequel (The Review Geek)

If you enjoyed Kakegurui, chances are you're going to enjoy this prequel spin-off. If you didn't enjoy the anime or manga, you're unlikely to find much to ...

Ultimately, Kakegurui Twin is a rather average prequel series to an anime and manga that’s garnered a pretty healthy cult following over the years. It’s not quite the banger used for Kakegurui, but it’s a decent instrumental all the same. Visually, the show looks great and the main theme of the series fits the tone beautifully. The mystery around Full Bloom is the real meat of the story and unfortunately these 6 episodes don’t quite do enough to bite into the tasty potential inside. A good example of this is the character of Mibuomi Aoi. He shows up in episode 2 and remains an integral part of the story, establishing himself as the antagonist but never quite showing his hand to see what he’s planning. The 6 episodes have a pretty simple archetype and present a “rags to riches” story for Mary as she gambles her way through different competitors to get to the top.

Kakegurui Twin is based on Mary Saotome and Tsuzura Hanatemari, who attempt to reach the top of Hyakkao Private Academy, where gambling decides your worth.

The portrayal of Mary and Tsuzura is quite progressive. Mary is a great protagonist. The premise is unique.

Of course it is one of the most intriguing moments that makes us just as tense as the protagonist of it. Special mention to the last episodes where, without going into too many details, there is a team betting game where Mary ends up in a daze thinking that there is a traitor in her team and maybe it could be one of her own friends. Its plot has as its main stage the Hyakkou Private Academy, a very elitist center attended by the children of powerful families in the political or financial world.

Kakegurui Twin (2022) season 1 review - a sinister, exciting and ... (Ready Steady Cut)

This review of the Netflix anime series Kakegurui Twin (2022) season 1 does not contain spoilers. Welcome to the wonderful but absurd world of Kakegurui.

Mixed with solid themes of sexual threat and a dystopian-style lifestyle, Kakegurui Twin is easily an anime series to keep an eye on (that’s, of course, if there are further plans to flesh out the story, leaning towards the sequel). Kakegurui Twin proposes the idea of power-hungry human beings in a desperate setting. The school’s engine is gambling, and at the center of the story is the smart and nowhere near innocent Mary Saotome (voiced by Minami Tanaka) — a newcomer to the school who is desperate to rise to the top.

Kakegurui Twin Review: Nonsense Can Be Fun (Leisurebyte)

The spin-off to the highly popular Netflix anime Kakegurui is here with Kakegurui Twin, featuring the story of a series regular and sly gambler Mary ...

The music is also tremendous, as it is exactly as exciting and blood-pumping as it needs to be in a show based on gambling as a theme. The show is animated extremely well by notable industry-giant MAPPA, which has spent a lot of time putting a lot of detail into every frame of Kakegurui Twin. The series is well known for the reaction shots depicting the most beautiful girls as absolute insane maniacs, and we have plenty of that here, alongside some great character design in general. There are tiny inconsistencies and contrivances throughout it, and above all, in a show that fancies itself as a thriller, the twists and turns here are surprisingly easy to predict. That certainly is an interesting story to be told in this show and one that should always have been anticipated as being addressed, but seeing as we already know that nothing gets fixed by the time the original timeline takes place and the ones campaigning for it are nowhere to be seen in the anime (meaning they are Kakegurui Twin original characters), the plot feels strangely meaningless despite being heavier than originally anticipated. There are some discrepancies from her abilities in the original anime, which is supposed to be set after this show, as she seems to be a little more capable here than she was there. The series is being animated by Studio MAPPA, a studio with one of the best reputations going in anime today, with shows like Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen under its belt.

‘ Kakegurui,’ the anime series based on the original manga, is also available on Netflix. Two seasons have been developed as of August 2022. In the prospective season 2, Mary and her friends might encounter Ouri Shimotsukiuri, a new character. Besides the Netflix ONA, ‘Kakegurui Twin’ manga has also inspired a live-action series, the first season of which began streaming on Amazon Prime Video in 2021. Like ‘Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler,’ ‘Kakegurui Twin’ is an ongoing manga series. Following the release of its first season, ‘Kakegurui Twin’ received mostly positive reviews, with critics praising the animation, plot, and characterization. She is significantly different from the sadistic and ruthless girl we meet at the start of ‘Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler.’ This means that something must have happened that brought about such a drastic alteration to Mary’s personality.
