During a 2018 interview with SlashFilm, the filmmaker expressed his interest in the film and how it's long overdue for Nichols. The release date for the film is still up in the air, but with casting only just occurring, don't expect to see the Jeff Nichols movie anytime soon. Nichols is responsible for several successful films, including Take Shelter, Mud, and Midnight Special. His directorial debut was Shotgun Stories in 2007, which received praise for depicting the conflict between two brothers, and accepted several smaller awards during its release.

The next instalment already is in development, with Hardy set to return as the title Marvel character. Hardy recently returned in Peaky Blinders season 6, and reprised Eddie Brock in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, one of the first post-pandemic hits, with a third Venom film on the way. Comer recently starred in Ridley Scott's The Last Duel and the final Killing Eve season 4, the latter of which garnered her a third Emmy nomination, with one previous win.
