Cats inciting violence to System Of A Down's Chop Suey in this TikTok video makes for top tier entertainment.

Last month, we witnessed the extraordinary emergence of cats losing their minds and dancing to Iron Maiden, solidifying our view that metal-minded cat content is exactly what the internet was really invented for. This time, though, it appears the cats in the video are initiating more violence, clawing and scratching at everything around them, such as their toys, siblings, and owners, rather than simply having a boogie. Fear not, though, there is still a little dancing, and even some disco lights, too.

Household and feral moggies could be killing countless native bats (Stuff.co.nz)

One of the country's most beloved animals is having a potentially drastic effect on New Zealand's only native land mammals, the long and short-tailed bat.

The region continues to fight back against an increase in meth use, and an increased gang presence. They suggest this could be managed by “reducing numbers of cats or excluding cats entirely from areas where bats are likely to be present”, and broach the creation of “a single, targeted law, or improvements to existing legislation and current practice” focused on reducing and managing the impacts of cats on wildlife. The paper’s authors state the cases reported on in the paper “are just the tip of the iceberg”. “Bats are tiny, they fit in the palm of your hand and are no match for a cat.” A 1981 paper published in the New Zealand Journal of Zoology reported that “two of these bats had been chewed, and all were believed to have been killed by a domestic cat while they were feeding on moths attracted to an outside light’’. A new paper published in the New Zealand Journal of Zoology on Wednesday, ‘Bats attacked by companion and feral cats: evidence from indigenous forest and rural landscapes in New Zealand’, outlines the threat to bats from cats, examining two cases of long-tailed bats, pekapeka-tou-roa, and lesser short-tailed bats, pekapeka-tou-poto, being killed and injured by feral and pet cats.

The reactions to my first comics were very positive and I gained followers quickly - I knew I was onto something! I found comfort in sharing the ridiculous things that happened and building a community of moms who got it. I may not be the #1 MOM, but I’m not doing so bad and I find people's flaws (especially my own) a huge source of amusement. I think that’s why a million people over various platforms now follow Litterbox Comics - people enjoy laughing at the mess of life together!

UC Davis researchers have launched new clinical trials to help treat a coronavirus disease in cats called feline infectious peritonitis, or FIP.

For this study, one group will receive antiviral drugs along with infusions of MSCs, and the other will receive an antiviral drug and placebo infusions. While the exact causes of MIS-C remain unclear, it is known that children diagnosed with it had the virus that causes COVID-19 or had been in contact with someone who was COVID-19 positive. It is part of a larger study looking into new treatments for multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children, or MIS-C, a condition that causes organs and other body parts to become inflamed. Pedersen found it safe and effective in treating cats with FIP. Currently veterinarians cannot prescribe it in the U.S. In this study, cats will receive either oral GS-441524 or oral remdesivir for comparison. They are seeking cats in the early to mid-stage of FIP disease for inclusion in clinical trials. Up to 95% of cats diagnosed with FIP die without treatment.

Cats Actually Love People Who Aren't 'Cat People' (The Dodo)

Cat parents, brace yourselves. While it may sound counterintuitive, a new study has found that cats actually love to be around people who hate them.

When it comes to affection, he prefers it on his own terms (but a nice scratch under the chin never hurts). Meanwhile, some cat lovers can be too clingy with their cats, holding them in areas they don’t like, simply because they can’t help showing their love for their feline friends. In a nutshell, scientists found that people who lived (or had lived) with cats were prone to fussing over and holding their cats more than the cats liked, older people tried to grab and restrain the cats more than younger people, and extroverts tended to initiate contact, which cats, known for their independence, aren’t that into.
