While computer science courses can help students with learning disabilities see themselves in careers in the field, they are still underrepresented.
Just participating in computer science courses may not be enough to make up the difference in this regard. At the moment, students with learning disabilities are underrepresented in computer science fields in college and the labor market. Even though computer science courses in high school help develop confidence and a sense of purpose, that may not be enough to encourage them to stick with it longer term. Based on our work, computer science courses appear to help students with learning disabilities develop positive attitudes toward STEM. These attitudes are linked to persistence in both computer science and STEM more generally. We found this connection for general education students but not for students with learning disabilities. In our research, we looked to see if there was a link between computer science coursework and a feeling of STEM community membership.

(2022) Political views and science literacy as indicators of vaccine confidence and COVID-19 concern. A higher concern with the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with lower levels of science education, libertarian social views, and left-wing economic views. This study also revealed that participants' levels of concern with the COVID-19 pandemic varied significantly with both their science education level and political views. Ensuring that topics of critical public health relevance are adequately covered in secondary school curricula could help improve scientific literacy and trust in vaccinations as well as in the healthcare workers that administer them. Dr Siani said: "A lack of trust in vaccines had already been identified as one of the top ten threats to global health, even before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the subject of immunization to the frontpage of worldwide news outlets. It is possible that participants who had not studied science at secondary school might recognise their lack of knowledge on the topic and tend to seek expert advice on vaccines from qualified personnel such has healthcare workers.

“We have to be very cognizant of the risk to the primary mission when we interface with these CubeSats,” says Jacob Bleacher, NASA’s chief exploration scientist. BioSentinel, led by Sergio Santa Maria, a biologist at NASA’s Ames Research Center, will carry strains of yeast in hundreds of microscopic wells, NASA’s first test of the biological effects of radiation beyond low-Earth orbit since the last Apollo mission in 1972. Because the device depends on reflected light, it will be most sensitive to signs of hydroxyl and water in sunlit regions at lower latitudes. About 2 years from now, it should sail as close as 800 meters to the asteroid in a 3-hour flyby. Stuck within the rocket for more than a year because of launch delays, their batteries have drained to a level where some may be unable to boot up and unfurl their solar panels. Several SLS CubeSats will focus on lunar ice, which has intrigued researchers ever since NASA’s Lunar Prospector discovered a signal suggestive of water in the late 1990s.

MECCO and Robert Morris University, along with other award winners, will be celebrated at the event at the Carnegie Science Center on October 13. It has also generated thermal models to avoid damage thresholds, produced process optimization methods, and designed a generic test vessel that can be welded to measure shear strength, tensile strength, and verify a hermetic seal. A partnership between Robert Morris University and MECCO, a Cranberry Township business, to research welding plastics with the use of lasers is the winner of the 2022 Carnegie Science Award for Exemplary Educational/Corporate Collaboration.
The NAS said Lubchenco violated its code of conduct before joining the Biden administration last year.

Little Badger is the author of “Elatsoe,” her first novel, and several short science fiction stories. “It allowed more research to be possible into the physiology, molecular biology and the ecology of the Red Tide algae.” Biology Professor Alan Pepper helped Little Badger with her dissertation, which provides insights into the biology and genetics of a mysterious organism about which there is still much left to be discovered. “I’m going to write about characters who grew up in my culture and characters who are under the LGBTQ+ umbrella,” Little Badger said. “With plankton, what I came to learn is that even though they’re super small and many of them you can’t see without a microscope, they’re just so important,” Little Badger said. Little Badger writes about the depths of human grief and violence, but also imagines a world where spirits, ghosts and animals exist alongside humans.

She leads the Agency’s work in artefact characterization: “With nuclear techniques, we can study historical objects to understand our past and preserve them for the future. Collaborating with the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in France and the Elettra Synchrotron facility in Italy, she used synchrotron radiation to study a set of eight waterlogged ancient coins — a field of study called archaeometallurgy. “Accelerator technologies can be used to study cultural heritage objects and provide quantitative data on their age, history, manufacturing processes and composition,” said Aliz Simon, the organizer of the workshop and an IAEA nuclear physicist specializing in accelerators.

"I think sharing our positive attitude towards this and how it can make a difference for people has influenced a small, but growing, group of people who are starting to incorporate translation into their scientific workflow." So, this is kind of future-proofing your writing, so that if someone wants to translate it into a million languages, they'll have a much easier time of it when it's written in that way." "It's pretty astounding how many journals don't allow you to freely publish translations after publication, and how few have platform support where you could have even just an abstract in a second or third language," Tarvin said. "But also, very importantly, when you go to translate that piece of text, the machine learning tools will have a much easier time of translating something that is written in plain language. Most journals do not even accept articles that are not in English, and few explicitly allow copublication of articles with a translation. And in fact, I have seen a really positive reception of this sort of activism from the students, as they all seem to agree that addressing language barriers is really important after taking the course." "Translation is becoming more and more in reach of any person. The class led Tarvin and some graduate students at UC Berkeley, along with collaborators in Canada, Israel and Hungary, to write a scientific paper evaluating new machine translation tools that can be used by people worldwide to make their scientific articles accessible to non-English speakers. "Many times, people have to pay for getting a professional translator to translate their work, and that's very expensive." But after the first translation, the whole paper didn't make sense," said Liu, a rising junior at the University of California, Berkeley, who is majoring in molecular and cell biology. In fall 2020, about 40% of entering UC Berkeley freshmen were first-generation college students, and within the 10-campus University of California system, 39% of first-generation students grew up with a language other than English as their first language. Translation is a must if scientists want to submit to high-profile journals, almost all of which are in English.

The Santa Marta sabrewing was found in an area of forest in the Santa Marta mountains with no protection. If you want to post a public comment, you can do that at the bottom of the page. Only around 15% of forests in the Santa Marta mountains are still standing, scientists estimate. “I was almost convinced it was the species, but because I felt so overcome by emotion, I preferred to be cautious; it could’ve been the Lazuline sabrewing [Campylopterus falcatus], which is often confused with Santa Marta sabrewing. Not much is known about the Santa Marta sabrewing. The last bird was spotted in 2010, and the species had long been considered “lost to science.”

Furthermore, the increased use of beef in the food business is boosting the market growth. The brisket segment is expected to witness a higher CAGR of 5.8% during the forecast period. One of the primary drivers driving the beef industry is rising health consciousness among the general public, as well as increased demand for animal-sourced protein. The market is expected to witness significant growth during the forecast period owing to the large Muslim population in the region. Coupled with increasing disposable incomes and growing urbanization, it is expected to be a key catalyst for driving the market in the region over the coming years. The increasing demand for animal-based food, protein-rich diets and functional meat products is the key factor driving the growth of the overall meat market.
