Clinical Features, Management of Acne Fulminans Explored in New ... (AJMC.com Managed Markets Network)

A case report of a patient with acne fulminans, a rare form of acne vulgaris, discussed the clinical manifestations of the disease, physical examination ...

“Clinicians must consider not only the patient’s psychological health but their ability to cope with the disfiguring elements of the disease and assess and support accordingly. Mask-wearing and isolation protocols accounted for the suboptimal assessment of the patient’s skin, noted the researchers, in which the initial diagnosis considered was acne vulgaris with a secondary staphylococcal infection. A comprehensive metabolic panel was normal, but the wound culture report would reveal the specimen was positive for Propionibacterium acnes, with multiple additional organisms present—confirming a diagnosis of AF. At that time, he received a diagnosis of post–COVID-19 long haul syndrome; he presented to the clinic 1 week later with attentive issues caused by whole body aches, fever, decreased appetite, and dull headache. “The sudden onset of hemorrhagic ulcerative lesions involving the back, chest, and face is pathognomonic for AF. [acne fulminans](https://www.ajmc.com/compendium/dermatology) (AF) is often mistaken for other skin infections—contributing to delayed treatment and risk of scarring and psychological distress in patients.

While many exfoliators rely solely on some type of hydroxy acid to remove all the dirt and build-up on your skin, this solution has another secret weapon. Both can work on acne-prone skin, but due to the gentle and non-abrasive nature of chemical exfoliants, these are a better option to use on blemishes (mechanical exfoliants like scrubs with micro-beads can result in tiny fissures on the skin and irritation). “This can be left on after cleansing and toning, which is a great way to ensure the exfoliating ingredients have ample time to do their magic, versus washing [it] off after a minute or two,” says Crumm. She then added, "Physical exfoliants can be helpful, but depending on the exfoliant, physical damage (micro tears) in the skin can be made without being readily noticed initially. The secret is the gentle formulation and strong dose of salicylic acid that helps remove dead skin cells and give you smoother and brighter skin within minutes.

Everything You Need to Know About Microdosing Accutane for Acne (HarpersBAZAAR.com)

Low-dose or microdosed Accutane is an off-label use of isotretinoin, or Accutane, by which patients take a lower dose of the medication over a longer period ...

“But there’s anywhere between a 30 and 40 percent—and sometimes, people quote as much as 60 percent—chance that the acne is going to come back, so some patients may go on a low dose once again.” The side effects are still there—but may only last longer—and with added insurance obstacles, it may not be worth the headache. “And sometimes, going on low-dose isotretinoin minimizes their acne enough for them to rely on more conventional therapies down the line.” “As dermatologists, we want to give our patients what they need for their skin, and there are some patients who are actually great candidates for low-dose isotretinoin, but it can get a little sticky with the insurance coverage.” If you want to reap the benefits of the medication with lower-grade side effects, a low dose may be the way to go—but it isn’t a silver bullet. There are a lot of advantages to low-dose isotretinoin, and it’s easy to see why more dermatologists are taking this approach with their patients. This means, at the very least, that you’ll have chapped lips and dry skin for years instead of months, even if it is to a lesser degree. “There’s a lot of variability on how people do it because there are no big, robust clinical trials that guide physicians on the way to prescribe low-dose,” Dr. “There have been several studies that looked at the goal dose, basically how much medication needs to accumulate in the body by the end of the treatment course, and they found that long-term acne clearance is seen after 150 to 250 mg. Although it’s technically an off-label use of the drug, many dermatologists recommend this approach for patients who would benefit from the results of Accutane without such harsh side effects (more on that in a minute). Robinson is just one of many acne sufferers who has found a solution in the low dose, but microdosing the drug isn’t as straightforward as it seems. She made an appointment with her dermatologist, and the two came up with a plan of attack that included both topical treatments and a prescription for spironolactone, a diuretic used to treat hormonal acne.

How to reduce forehead acne if you have a fringe (Fashion Journal)

Wear your fringe with confidence and say goodbye to foreahead acne with these experts tips from skincare and haircare professionals.

While the product doesn’t directly treat acne, Peter says its soothing and cooling effect on the scalp makes it a safer option to refresh your fringe. [Evo Hair](https://www.evohair.com/), Peter Beckett, also has a few holy grail haircare products you can try. Just like with most hairstyles, proper care and styling of our fringes are crucial. And please, whatever you’re doing, resist the temptation to touch your skin and hair. “Finally, clip bangs back whenever possible to reduce the opportunity for contamination and exacerbation of forehead acne.” The key to good skin and hair starts with basics like these. “[Most] importantly, always look for creams that aren’t fragranced and are non-comedogenic,” she says. Before we get to the products you can use, Dr Cohen-Jones has a few general tips for maintaining acne-free foreheads. In hotter months, it’s also worth looking into anti-humidity sprays to help prevent bangs from getting too flat or frizzy. Cleaning both your hair and face properly at the end of the day is another ordeal. But there’s a reason I can never keep a fringe for very long (six months is the longest I’ve lasted so far). I favour this hairstyle for two reasons: it disguises my forehead (when I was a kid someone told me it was bigger than average, and I never forgot it) and I enjoy being able to change my look with a few well-placed snips.
