The action is set in late 1930’s Bay City, centering around the brooding, down on his luck detective Marlowe. [Marlowe](https://deadline.com/tag/marlowe/), a noir crime thriller that stars [Liam Neeson](https://deadline.com/tag/liam-neeson/) atop an ensemble that includes [Diane Kruger](https://deadline.com/tag/diane-kruger/), [Jessica Lange](https://deadline.com/tag/jessica-lange/), Danny Huston, Alan Cumming, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ian Hart, Colm Meaney, Daniela Melchior and Francois Arnaud. The film will be released theatrically December 2 through Open Road/Briarcliff Entertainment. In what is Neeson’s 100th film, the star plays detective Philip Marlowe, the protagonist from the hardboiled Raymond Chandler mysteries that included The Big Sleep, Farewell My Lovely and The Long Goodbye.

For his milestone hundredth film, suave action legend Liam Neeson is set to star in Oscar-winning director Neil Jordan's upcoming noir thriller Marlowe.

Detective Philip Marlowe is a character first introduced in the late '30s in the hardboiled crime genre as the outwardly gruff, but deeply introspective archetype, by author Raymond Chandler. Everything changes when a beautiful and glamorous heiress, played by Diane Kruger, hires Marlowe to track down her ex-lover. Marlowe is a simmering crime noire with a screenplay written by Academy-award winner William Monahan, whose credits include Martin Scorsese's The Departed, Ridley Scott's Body of Lies and more.

Along with Marlowe, fans can soon expect to see the Taken star in five more titles: Retribution, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, Cold Storage, Charlie Johnson in the Flames, and Thug, leading him towards bragging rights of having well over 100 titles by his 71st birthday. Jordan, who previously teamed up with the actor almost three decades ago for the biographical period drama Michael Collins, which saw Neeson star as the titular character referred to his leading man as “an icon,” perfectly suited to play the role of the equally iconic Philip Marlowe. A major accomplishment, it seems like there is no better role for him to play other than that of a legendary investigator. Diane Kruger will star as the heiress with Jessica Lange playing the heiress’ mother who is a famous movie star. Starring alongside Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, and Jessica Lange will be a loaded call sheet made up of Danny Huston, Alan Cumming, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ian Hart, Colm Meaney, Daniela Melchior, and Francois Arnaud. As the investigation gets underway, Marlowe will discover that not all is how it initially seems with deceit and deception around every corner.
