Chot Reyes out for Game 7 due to protocols (Tiebreaker Times)

Chot Reyes is out of TNT's most important game of the PBA Philippine Cup. The Tropang Giga won't have their head coach for the winner-take-all Game Seven of ...

If there’s any consolation to Reyes’ absence, though, is the return of Jayson Castro. He was out in Games Two and Three as he had to coach Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers’ fourth window. However, the Tropang Giga failed to close it out in six, and the climb will surely be much tougher in the rubber match as the Beermen are in high spirits following their masterful showing last Friday.

He had a superb performance, hitting 19 points in the third period alone and even outscoring the entire Beermen. June Mar Fajardo, one of the remnants of that dreaded Death Five, which helped the Beermen in winning eight championships in a four-year period, had another monster game of 19 points and 18 boards. But even in the absence of their key personnel and playing in pain, the Tropang Giga made a game out of it and in fact took control in the third period behind old reliable guard Jayson Castro.

San Miguel Beermen usher in new era by seeing off TNT Tropang ... (ESPN)

San Miguel Beermen have been crowned 2022 PBA Philippine Cup champions after sealing a 4-3 series win over TNT Tropang Giga in the finals.

So during his interview after the confetti had nestled on the coliseum floor, he said he was sorry to disappoint his critics once again. But while the new guys put in valuable contributions, Austria was quick to give credit to the three veterans left from his original champion starting five, stating: "They call Chris Ross a playoff player. "More than half (of the players) came from other teams and didn't have experience in a championship. I was 0-3 (in the finals) against them (the Beermen), and I won a championship with them. So to rise above the naysayers and haters, it's a blessing. This is my third time and to win it is just a blessing. In the semifinals it went to a seventh game, and we were so lucky to win that. "I knew as long as I was in the PBA I'd have a chance of winning a championship. Manuel was part of the ill-fated Alaska Aces team that blew a 3-0 lead against the Beermen in the 2016 Philippine Cup. "That's the main goal of every player in the PBA. Enciso's hot shooting in Game 6 carried over to the deciding game as he buried four triples. "We fought till the end, but they're really strong," Castro said in Tagalog.
