Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl opens Taylor Hawkins tribute show (BBC News)

The Foo Fighters have been joined by Liam Gallagher in a special tribute to the band's late drummer.

"I know you can hear this, I know you can feel this. His energy and positivity and passion for life were on display every time Foo Fighters took to the stage. "Taylor I know you're watching," said Ulrich from the stage. Sir Paul was a surprise addition to the line-up - giving a full-throttle rendition of The Beatles classic Helter Skelter, and duetting with Chrissie Hynde on Oh! "He knew more about music than anyone I'd ever met in my life." It was a family affair through and through.

Mourning Joyously – London's Taylor Hawkins Tribute Show Stirs ... (Forbes)

Today's six-hour show balanced the exuberance of a rock extravaganza with the raw human emotion of loss. Music is the connective tissue of life.

The Foo Fighters’ song These Days foretells what lies before all of us. Even Metallica’s Lars Ulrich played on a stomping two song medley of AC/DC hits with the band’s Brian Johnson on vocals. It was an astonishing mix of talent representing a subset of the people who had jammed with Hawkins and the Foos over the past 25 years. Immediately after learning of Hawkins’ demise, The Foo Fighters canceled their entire calendar of shows for 2022. The highlight was always whenever we could attend a Foo Fighters show. Perhaps the most significant relationship of my adult life developed through a common love of live performance.

Here are some highlights from today's star-studded 6-hour Taylor ... (The A.V. Club)

Paul McCartney, Brian May, Dave Chappelle, the Foo Fighters, and many more came together to pay tribute to Hawkins today.

That included Josh Freese, Travis Barker, Rufus Taylor, and, yes, Bushell, who powered mightily through a version of the band’s “Learn To Fly.” It was, to put not-too-fine a point on it, a massive and star-studded affair: In addition to Dave Grohl and the other members of the Foo Fighters—playing together publicly for the first time since Hawkins’ death—the setlist also included appearances from Dave Chappelle, Josh Homme, John Paul Jones, Liam Gallagher, Kesha, Nile Rodgers, The Pretenders, Krist Novoselic, Lars Ulrich, Roger Taylor, Brian May, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Brian Johnson, Stewart Copeland, Nandi Bushell, Paul McCartney, and more. The most emotional moments of the night, not surprisingly, came from the set by the Foo Fighters themselves, who brought in a rotating set of drummers to pay tribute to Hawkins.
