Fall Snapshot: Bucknell Bison (Lacrosse Bucket)

(Photo Courtesy of Bucknell Athletics) Welcome to the Fall Snapshot series. Throughout the fall I will be taking an early look at all 75 DI men's college ...

With the holes this team has on offense, Feda could be one of many players who takes a big step forward in 2023. Duncan Hill (9GB4CT) played in all 15 games and started three at close as a sophomore. Conor McCusker served as the backup last season as a junior, going 22-for-55 (40%) on the year. The cupboard is certainly not empty when it comes to the Bucknell defense. Hank Bethel (9GB/4CT) played in 11 games with one start at close and switched to SSDM late last season. Expectations should be for the Bison to remain its consistency as the best among the middle of the pack in the league and have the ability to challenge some of the conference’s title contenders. Reid Delanois (34GB/25CT) Travis Talarico (34GB/16CT), and Drew Wellington (33GB/11CT) were all full-time starters at close and were seniors. Furthermore, Jack Van Slyke played in eight games and started in the season finale against Navy before playing the majority of the contest against Loyola in the Patriot League quarterfinals. Could it be like last season or will we see one guy get an edge on the other and start from season’s start to end? His senior campaign last spring proved to be his best as he went 172-for-335 (51.3%). Returning both is huge and gives the Bison two capable options in cage. A high water mark of Bucknell’s 2022 campaign was its 12-11 win over Penn State in the first meeting between the two programs since 2013.

Bison RB TaMerik Williams finally recovering from rare injury (INFORUM)

It took awhile to diagnose a stress fracture suffered last season, but senior regaining old form.

“One of the biggest posts I always tell myself is: clap for others and so others can clap for yourself. It was a banner effort in the 38-7 win over the Salukis; Williams rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns. “We decided to dial back everything as far as lifting and running,” Williams said. It wasn’t until after NDSU’s only loss of the season — 27-19 at South Dakota State in early November — did Williams become a featured back. He can trace it to the 2021 FCS second round playoff win over Southern Illinois, when a couple of days after that game he noticed something was not right with his leg. Don’t take that like Williams is seventh on the Bison depth chart.

Battle lines drawn over bison grazing (Daily Inter Lake)

The American Prairie Reserve's stated plan to “create the largest nature reserve in the contiguous United States” continues to meet strong rural opposition ...

APR’s high-salaried public relations experts (Pete Geddes and Beth Saboe) continue to launch media blitzes applauding BLM’s grazing decision in an attempt to gain public favor for that decision; but, no matter how compelling the arguments may seem, the court of public opinion will not carry the day. Battle lines have been drawn and the court of public opinion is now in session over BLM’s recent decision to approve bison grazing on APR’s allotments. Ecosystem engineering through bison grazing, as APR labels it, does not hold up to legal scrutiny because federal grazing laws require permittees to be engaged in raising production livestock on federally reserved grazing districts and APR has no interest in doing that.
