The actor added: “Certainly, there were a lot of women behind the scenes. This is what we want to put out. This is what we want to talk about. In the latter scene, it is clear Alicent is reluctant to engage with Viserys and is not enjoying their intimacy. “There’s a lot of violent sex, and it made me nervous. Before starting production on “House of the Dragon,” Carey sat down to watch “Game of Thrones.” “Of course the first season, even just the first episode of ‘Thrones,‘ there’s a lot of violence upon women,” she said.

'HOTD' star Emily Carey on navigating romantic scenes, and whether she and Milly Alcock return in season 2.

“I think it was really important for Miguel and Ryan to show the origin story of how these women came to be the women that [fans of author George R.R. “You need to see a significant amount of how Milly and I interact to actually find that journey. But it was certainly intimidating because I admire Olivia as an actor and a person, so I was just excited to be in the mix for it.” You see also see their relationships with the people around them and the world and it all contributes to this journey of seeing how they become the women that people love — or hate — depending on your personal opinion.” It depends on how it’s received and where they want take the show next. “But the main thing was, watching her work, our acting styles are actually very similar, which is something I think [showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik] had clocked,” Carey says. Carey had been repeatedly told she looked a bit like the Ready Player One actress before she landed the Dragon role, and when Cooke debuts onscreen later this season, the two look so similar it actually takes a few moments to realize the actors have changed. “I seem to have made a niche for myself playing ‘the younger version,'” she quips. “Still being 17 [when cast], the first scene that I read from the show was my sex scene and my intimacy scenes, that includes the scene where I’m bathing the king…. [noted to Newsweek](https://www.newsweek.com/house-dragon-emily-carey-interview-scared-sex-scenes-intimacy-coordinator-help-1741439) that the show’s intimate scenes “scared” her, but the use of an intimacy coordinator on set made her feel comfortable. As actors, we bring a lot of ourselves to the people that we play. And since Carey was raised by a single mother, she also had to chart new emotional territory to forge a connection with Alicent’s father, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans).

While there's no doubt that the D'Arcy and Cooke will blow us away by tackling older versions of the two girls, it'll be a shame to see Carey and Alcock go. Oh yeah, and she's the Queen of Westeros — thanks to marrying Rhaenyra's father, Viserys ( [Paddy Considine](https://www.slashfilm.com/996859/paddy-considines-house-of-the-dragon-performance-is-the-ultimate-balancing-act/)). In the same interview, Carey discussed their complex dynamic and revealed more about how she and Alcock conceptualized the relationship: For Carey, that physical change made the camera test feel very real and in-the-moment: You don't know what the feelings mean. In just a few more episodes, the younger actresses will step away from their roles to be replaced by Emma D'Arcy (as Rhaenyra) and Olivia Cooke (as Alicent). Otto is seen being even more desperate to secure Alicent’s son’s succession, and Alicent is looking way more distressed than she ever has. By romancing the king, the character is stepping out of her comfort zone in much the same way Carey is. Alicent is pushed and pulled in many directions because of the men in her life, but it’s Otto Hightower who’s really controlling things to ensure his grandson will become the next king. Carey’s separation from the role could be helping her in pulling it off convincingly. She plays Alicent Hightower, daughter of the king’s Hand Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), and the task is more challenging than one might assume. As actors, we bring a lot of ourselves to the people that we play.

Emily Carey and Milly Alcock will soon be replaced with Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy later this season in HBO's House of the Dragon.

In the initial series, the history of Westeros was mainly shown through dialogue, as characters discuss events that occurred before the show instead of directly showing the audience. "It's been spoken about, conversations have happened, but, in all honesty, I know absolutely nothing and I have no idea, Of course, I would love to come back. Emma D'Arcy is set to take over the role of Rhaenyra from Alcock, while Olivia Cooke will play Alicent.

According to Carey, who is now 19, having an intimacy coordinator (and, in her words, a co-star who was as much of a “joy” as Paddy Considine playing King Viserys) made all the difference. Personally, I’m going to take the word of a young woman who filmed sex scenes at age 18 over a 63-year-old man on this matter!
