The former is a glittering synth-pop track that makes space for each member’s vocal persona. Lisa and Jennie stand out on the track with some of the best rap delivery we’ve ever seen from them, snarling over their swaggering verses with cocky charisma and power. Although the shows are not until January, the new album has given fans plenty of new material to get excited over until then. The Happiest Girl, the sixth song, is an emotional ballad that’s in English and features a soulful chord structure with light piano backing — something much different from the Blackpink fans are used to hearing. In the video, Blackpink make references to other music videos while singing: “When we pull up you know it’s a shutdown.” The song shows off her powerful vocals that prove why she was able to also have a successful solo career while the group took a hiatus between albums. It is the highest-selling album by a Korean girl group and the first to sell more than one million copies. Many fans have commented on social media that the track makes them nostalgic for an earlier time with its light but upbeat vibes, different from the more athematic tunes we’re used to hearing.

BLACKPINK spotlight vocals, bite at haters and flex over innovative productions on second full album 'Born Pink.'
The track represents not only the group, but personally connects with people from across the world. The production also blends hip-hop sounds with a traditional Korean instrumental geomungo (played in the accompanying music video) that sees the quartet representing their home country in multiple ways. We want to hear more from songwriter Jisoo and anticipate that anything she writes for her forthcoming solo project will be equally dynamic. What is it that I keep remembering?”) but ultimately want a crush to “just say yeah yeah yeah.” The bouncy, soaring dance breakdown in the chorus has us expecting this one to be a true highlight if the girls perform it on tour. Their beauty isn’t for the pleasure of anyone but themselves. Rosé opens up with the chorus, “I say f–k it when I feel it / Cause no one’s keepin’ ‘tally / I do what I want with who I like / I ain’t gon’ conceal it,” which feels comparatively revolutionary in the ever-safe K-pop scape. Six years into their careers, the ever-innovative BLACKPINK knew they needed to deliver something to shock an increasingly expanding and demanding fanbase. A reminder of the star’s true vocal prowess was previously seen in her excellent two singles, “On the Ground” and “Gone,” released last year, making us hungry for her next solo album. Instead, what stands out here are some of the group’s iciest lines to date: “I bring money to the table, not your dinner/ Both my body and my bank account could figure,” Jennie purrs on the first verse. Listen up for… Still, we know the girls have more in them than “Ready for Love” shows. Quickly, the quartet consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa created a global buzz among music fans wondering what they would come up with this time.
Nearly two whole years after their first full album The Album, K-pop sensation Blackpink is back with another LP, titled Born Pink.
As tracks tend to blend in with one another, there’s just not enough to keep the listener well-fed and satisfied. They stay true to themselves in all facets of the record, showcasing both their pink and their black sides with grace. With each having merely eight songs, both records are over in the blink of an eye, and do not give listeners enough to go on. Last for the new tracks is Tally, a pop song with hip hop elements and a crisp guitar tone that gives it a more rock feel. Having Born Pink sign off with that out of all songs feels disappointing and anti-climactic, almost like receiving socks as a Christmas gift – it’s not bad per-se, but in your heart you expected something better. The gloomy and dark nature of the song is nicely complemented by the members’ brilliant vocals, who manage to well-translate the sentiments displayed in the lyrics. However, the refreshing guitar tone mixed with the bright vocals brings the production to a more refined and interesting climax, making it one of the stand-outs on Born Pink. And if you ask me, that’s where it should have stayed – on PUBG, away from the albums and away from us all. Switching gears in the record’s sound-lanes, we have a pop moment infused with retro synths and with a production reminiscent of 80’s music – Yeah Yeah Yeah. It doesn’t overpower the track, but creates a conspicuous underpin that keeps the main body of the song moving in the right direction. Continuing the saga of Blackpink songs that feel extremely Blackpink, we have Typa Girl, a trap/hip hop b-side on a unique organ motif with strong lyrics and an even stronger beat. But even aside from its catchy quality, the track is very interesting and intriguing, particularly production-wise.
Blackpink Are Bold & Self-Referential On 'Born Pink'. The Pinks make the most of a scarce eight-song tracklist — but do they owe fans more?
For that reason, "Hard to Love" — a surprise solo entry from Rosé — is also a cathartic standout. Pop-rock hybrid "Yeah Yeah Yeah" is one of the album's high points. The earworm is a torrent of different melodies and sounds, from West Coast rap (the opening chant of the group's name mimics the drawl on Snoop Dogg's "I Wanna Rock") to anarchic EDM to the hypnotic plucking of the geomungo, a traditional Korean zither. The previously-released PUBG Mobile promotional song "Ready For Love" feels like a throwaway, as does the snoozy "The Happiest Girl," though that track provides the album with its sole piano ballad. That brand is best conveyed on the album's pre-release single, "Pink Venom." In the time since, the fierce foursome from YG Entertainment — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — have quite literally taken over the world, so much so that in the visual for the group's latest single "Shut Down," off their sophomore album Born Pink, Rosé finds herself back atop the globe in the same relaxed position.
