What Happened to Laena Velaryon in 'House of the Dragon ... (We Got This Covered)

First, we saw the departure of Milly Alcock and Emily Carey as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, respectively. Then came the expected Game of Thrones ...

Of course, the book is deemed as a less-reliable recount of the events as it is written from the perspective of the maesters and not a firsthand account. Catch House of the Dragon as it roars on to HBO on Sunday nights. The book’s version of events is also sad as she ultimately could not die the death of a dragon rider. This current version of the character is now married to Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), and they had two children, Baela Targaryen (Shani Smethurst) and Rhaena Targaryen (Eva Ossei-Gerning). [HBO](https://wegotthiscovered.com/tag/hbo/)’s [House of the Dragon](https://wegotthiscovered.com/tag/house-of-the-dragon/), entitled “The Princess and the Queen” devastated fans in more ways than one. One of the characters who is no longer with us is Laena Velaryon.

Martin [has explained](https://wikiofthrones.com/heres-how-daenerys-being-fireproof-contradicts-the-books-2) that Daenerys’ case was an exceptional circumstance. Although the Game of Thrones audience knows Daenerys is immune to fire, other Targaryens and Valyrians are not; a common misconception since the show leaned quite heavily into the “a true dragon does not burn” angle. The prequel series, House of the Dragon, is adapted from the book Fire & Blood. Game of Thrones was based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire.
