All these features are expected to improve the overall experience of using Google Maps for both users and developers alike. This particular feature will be available to developers in a preview in the coming weeks. Immersive View is launching in Los Angeles, London, New York City, San Francisco, and Tokyo in the coming months, with more cities to be added in the future. Search with Live View is rolling out in London, Los Angeles, New York City, Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo in the coming months. It’ll be served with weather, traffic, and other information to give you a better understanding of what the place will be like on a given day and time. Google is all set to roll out several new updates to Maps over the next few months, but it detailed a bunch of those upcoming features today at its Search On event.

Given the positive environmental impact of this feature, Google has decided to extend it to third-party developers that use Maps within their own applications. The final update is based on the eco-friendly routing feature that was launched in Maps earlier this year. Search with Live View will become available in the coming weeks in San Francisco, London, New York, Paris and Tokyo. The new Search with Live View feature will enable users to search for places or follow walking directions using Maps’ augmented reality. The feature relies on billions of user photos that have been processed using artificial intelligence, helping Maps to model photorealistic buildings in a more immersive, 3D view. Given the effort that goes into these incredibly realistic representations, Google Maps Immersive View will be available in only a select few cities at launch, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City and London.

While Google didn't use the full "vibe check" Gen Z parlance with all of these announcements, that's still the takeaway from these new features. The last big, new toy for Google Maps users announced on Wednesday is an enhancement of Live View, the feature that lets you navigate from the street level using your phone’s camera. As a millennial (which is like Gen Z but with more lower back pain), I will definitely be using immersive view to perform vibe checks of my own. Launching Wednesday, you’ll also be able to check out “photorealistic aerial views” of 250 3D-modeled landmarks around the world, including the Eiffel Tower and the Acropolis. (Hopefully one of the first results for my old neighborhood will be the Google says the feature will roll out over “the coming months” for both Android and iOS apps.

Like Google said in that original post, "the accuracy of localization through VPS is greatly affected by the quality of both the imagery and the location associated with it." This is a camera-powered location system: You fire up the camera, point it at the world, and your camera feed is compared against Google's huge collection of street view data to determine your location.
