A six-time All-Star, Griffin boasts averages of 19.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 724 career games with the Clippers, Pistons and Nets. Free agent Blake Griffin has agreed to a one-year, fully guaranteed deal with the Boston Celtics, sources tell ESPN. The Celtics have agreed to a one-year contract with veteran free agent Blake Griffin, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday.
Griffin's deal will reportedly be fully guaranteed for one year at the veteran minimum. The Celtics will need to waive a player to complete the Griffin signing.
The Celtics will need to waive a player to complete the Griffin signing. He regularly features near the top of NBA leaderboards in charges taken. In 82 games (34 starts) with Brooklyn, Griffin averaged 7.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 18.5 minutes per game. No longer the high-flyer he was in his younger days, Griffin has reinvented his game. With six players currently on non-guaranteed camp contracts, that shouldn’t be a problem for Boston. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Celtics are signing Blake Griffin:
A six-time All-Star, Griffin boasts averages of 19.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 724 career regular season games with the Nets, L.A. Clippers and Detroit Pistons ...
Even with all that leap, Griffin never was a shot-blocker, and aside from his first season in the league, nor was he the great rebounder in the NBA that he was in college. He may not be ageing like Kevin Love, perhaps, but he is finding ways to contribute on a nightly basis, and where once the poster dunk was something he did better than everyone else, his new something is the taken charge. Also a decent and unselfish passer on the move, Griffin can now create offense with the ball in his hands, where once he was the one who needed creating for. But over the course of his 13-year career, he has gotten smarter, wiser and more polished as a player. Shooting slightly on the way down, consistency in the outside shot has never been a hallmark of Blake's, as evidenced by his 26.2% three-point percentage last campaign. And when he does set screens, his big frame means they can be meaningful ones, recording 1.6 screen assists per game even in his limited role. What Griffin has done, though, is develop his perimeter skills beyond just the shooting. The deal is fully guaranteed, and thus not part of the training camp shuffle - Griffin, it seems, will be a Celtic to begin this season. As training camp draws to a close and preseason begins, this is usually a point in the season where the only NBA transactions hitting the wire are players being signed for a day or two so as to be able to allocate their rights to the team's G League affiliate, or cuts of any residual offseason excess. Gallinari could miss the entire season while Williams III will be sidelined 8-12 weeks after a cleanup procedure on his knee. Two years ago, he was playing 26.5 minutes per game in the playoffs for the Nets and the Celtics shouldn’t need to lean on him anywhere near that much if healthy. We’ll take Griffin’s addition as a sign that the team isn’t blown away by what it’s seen from the gaggle of camp invitees. If the Celtics were simply looking to fill the Gallinari void then Griffin could be fine in limited minutes. Blake Griffin is reportedly set to join the Boston Celtics after signing a one-year, fully guaranteed deal on Friday, according to multiple reports.
Boston will use Griffin for his veteran leadership and playmaking ability at the four-spot, not only as a bouncy scorer but as an underrated passer out of the low and mid-post. Griffin played 56 games last year in Brooklyn, averaging 6.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the field. Griffin has played for four teams from 2017-18: the Clippers, Pistons, Nets, and Celtics.

The Detroit Pistons aren't in the market for a free agent, but there are some big names still out there even after Blake Griffin signed with the enemy.
It’s something the Players Association is clearly going to bring up in the next CBA, as they are always looking out for veterans. It’s leading to a lot of top-heavy payrolls populated with young, cheap players at the bottom. It shows a recent trend in the NBA that relates to the salary cap.

That same year, he made his acting debut when he appeared in an episode of the Comedy Central show “Broad City.” He also appeared in an episode of the “Eric Andre Show” and the film “The Female Brain” to go along with being a roaster at the Comedy Central Rost of Alec Baldwin. Griffin had a stint working for the comedy website Funny or Die and made his comedy debut at a Just for Laughs festival in 2016. He ended up scoring eight points and brought a jolt to the Nets though it didn’t last in that game or in Game 4 as the Celtics pulled off the sweep. He changed his game up a bit, developing a jump shot to help alleviate the stress on his knees from much of the dunking he did during his days with the Clippers. After getting traded to the Pistons during the 2017-18 season, Griffin remained mostly healthy over the next two seasons, missing just a few games for a bone bruise. He re-signed with the Clippers following that season, but missed a month due to an MCL sprain. In the 2015-16 season, Griffin missed time due to a partially torn quad. Griffin was limited during the Clippers’ first-round playoff loss to the Grizzlies in 2013 due to an ankle sprain. He was named to one of the All-NBA teams four straight years, too (second-team from 2012-14 and third-team in 2015). Griffin reached the final round of the Slam Dunk Contest, going up against JaVale McGee. For several NBA fans, Griffin became a household name during All-Star Weekend in 2011.
