Viral Stop-Motion Videos Capture a Simpler Time in India (Hyperallergic)

There's high demand in the country for the nostalgia-soaked Instagram videos of sister duo Zainab and Sakina Sabunwala.

“There are so many things that we take for granted because we are privileged and in India, it’s so common to see things like small children working on the streets,” Zainab said. The sisters’ work has been in demand by clients ranging from couples commissioning wedding invitations to Disney’s Indian digital platform (Disney+ Hotstar) and the country’s premier cricket league. They were mid-1980s kids and their videos are reminiscent of that time, creating slow magic with attention to small details like making a dish or feeding pigeons. We sit on the floor and eat from one big plate where a meal starts typically with sweets, and then we move to many other dishes, sharing and bonding over food,” Zainab explained. The beauty of their work is found in the smallest details of daily life, like the sound of a man snoring or a cow mooing. Many of the incidents portrayed are personal memories from their childhood, like the depiction of their grandmother on a rocking chair that suddenly becomes empty when she dies. “In our community food is a very important part of life. A life-sized finger (actually Zainab’s) appears in each animation to do some of the action, like plucking a flower, adding an ingredient to a dish, or opening a window. “We grew up listening to Hindi film music on scratchy tape recorders and radios which our parents played all day as they went about their daily chores or on long drives,” said Zainab. Both are trained engineers who spent seven years with their grandparents in Udaipur, Rajasthan, during the Gulf War and did their college education in Bengaluru (also known as Bangalore). “Sakina was always fond of drawing and art and is completely self-taught, and I started working with animation after finishing my engineering degree,” explained Zainab, who happened to be in Udaipur during our phone conversation. Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar’s mellifluous voice plays in the background as a pretty lady clad in a saree sits on her terrace, enjoying her tea with biscuits while sparrows gather on the rails.

Why People Watch YouTube Videos at Faster Playback Speeds (MakeUseOf)

YouTube launched a feature called video playback speeds in 2010 to allow users to control how quickly or slowly they want to watch their preferred content.

Combine that with the huge number of channels and videos across YouTube, and you get people who don't have the time or patience to watch a video at normal speed. However, increasing playback speeds may sink us deeper into the dopamine-driven YouTube rabbit holes that we often fall into. However, people start speeding up videos as the day progresses. Many users don't usually speed up the videos they want in the morning. One of the And for the perfectionists who like custom speeds, 1.1x was the most used speed.

Why online lit platform Wattpad is keying its organic digital strategy ... (Digiday)

Online literature platform Wattpad is holding onto its ad dollars, leveraging organic growth on social media and prioritizing its owned channels to build up ...

Hence, why the company is now bullish on organic marketing and building up its owned channels, per Yew. While brands should look for ways to enhance their organic social presence to authentically build community, “social media fickleness demands a level of paid delivery to ensure the user sees your message, let alone engages with it,” said Clark. That’s not to say the brand doesn’t spend on digital media at all. To capitalize on that movement, Wattpad’s social team joins the conversation, reacting in real time, according to Yew. Instead of spending big on increasingly steep CPMs in a crowded digital marketplace, Wattpad leverages a mostly organic social media strategy, tapping into existing communities like #BookTok on TikTok to boost engagement and build its online community. Wattpad is an online literature platform, founded in 2006, on which users can create and publish written content.

Disabled social-media influencers who brighten your day by showing how they go grocery shopping are obscuring a much more important conversation, ...

If people get the warm fuzzies when they watch videos of me romping with my guide dog, or when they virtually accompany me to the grocery store, they are likely to think: “Wow, that’s great. It’s similar to people who will jack up the price of gold-plated jewelry from a far-off country, because undiscerning shoppers here won’t know any better. It boils down to this: Inspiration porn makes the mundane seem uniquely extraordinary. Those are the things we want most of all, more than someone attending our TED Talks, or following us on Instagram. And a 12-year-old wheelchair user who’s the next keynote speaker at a community fundraising event. When anyone asks me the ultimate goals of my disability related advocacy, my answer is simple.

The two videos both mention the same town and both say the first parachutists were spotted on September 30. Since yesterday, this plane has been dropping parachutists while people are dying in the Sahel. In the second video, the person filming the parachutists says, in Mooré, one of the many languages spoken in Burkina Faso: “You, who are parachuting.

Zoom is 'washed out' as video conference provider pivots its ... (CNBC)

The teleconferencing firm is transitioning its business in the face of increasing competition from Microsoft and others.

"Ultimately, while we believe in Zoom's platform and long-term vision, this view is balanced by execution risk, a contract renewal cycle that may occur during a time of tightening budgets and evolving competitive landscape in a slowing macroeconomic climate," read the note. Now, Zoom is reinvesting in research and development, as well as sales and marketing, to expand its business into chat, contact center and phone. "Our assessment is positive on Zoom's underlying technology, continued innovation, and market position, and we are impressed by the cash-generative financial profile, though we believe these are offset by near-term growth and margin headwinds as Zoom pivots to optimize business mix and ramps spending to explore new avenues of growth as well as address competitive evolution," JPM analyst Mark Murphy wrote in a Friday note.
