Rain or Shine has announced that Chris Gavina has signed on to become the head coach of T1 League's Taichung Suns.

Prior to the Commissioner’s Cup, Yeng Guiao replaced him as head coach of Rain or Shine. In the three conferences as head coach of Rain or Shine, he compiled a 13-22 elimination round record — only making the playoffs once. In 2018, he signed with the Elasto Painters as an assistant coach before being elevated to the head coaching role last year.

We wish him all the best in his next coaching stint," Rain Or Shine said in a statement on its Facebook page. Gavina's stint as ROS head coach lasted until the 2022 Philippine Cup as Yeng Guiao returned to the head coaching post for the Commissioner's Cup, although Gavina stayed in the coaching staff. The Elasto Painters announced later Sunday that Gavina will be leaving the team as he accepted a new role as the head coach of the Taichung Suns in the T1 League.

He moved to Rain or Shine as a deputy to then coach Caloy Garcia for three years before he was promoted as the head coach. The move ended Gavina’s six year tenure in the PBA where he started as an assistant coach to the Kia franchise in 2016 before taking the head coaching position in 2018. Chris Gavina has bid the PBA and Rain or Shine goodbye after signing as a head coach of Taiwanese T1 League team Taichung Suns.

MANILA, Philippines—PBA coach Chris Gavina will take his talents to Taiwan as the new head tactician of Taichung Suns in the Taiwanese T1 league.

“Rain or Shine accepts assistant coach Chris Gavina’s resignation in order to become [the] head coach of the Taichung Suns in the Taiwanese T1 League,” the team said in a statement. The 43-year-old mentor will handle a Suns team that reached the finals of the 2021-22 season of the T1 league. MANILA, Philippines—PBA coach Chris Gavina will take his talents to Taiwan as the new head tactician of Taichung Suns in the Taiwanese T1 league.
