Also worthy of note is the presence of local lad, Kobby Mainoo on the bench – he looks a ridiculous talent, an all-round midfielder with beautiful balance, skill and weight of pass. Meanwhile, we should see a belter at the aforementioned – its first league fixture in six weeks. I really like what I’ve seen of him, and I’d love to see him get on the pitch for a proper stretch today. I didn’t expect the former to play today, but he did well after coming off the bench in midweek and perhaps his possession-heavy style is thought more suitable for the way Ten Hag wants his team to play in this game. Only drawback is there would probably only be six or seven of him left on the pitch by the end of the game.” “He wore every shirt from 1 to 12, in the days they meant something in terms of position, except for 11.” I think they’re all decent players, and Ben White in particular is doing a terrific job at right-back given he isn’t really one. He goes off and his mates clear the corner, but I think he’ll be fine. Villa are playing well and Bailey diddles Chilwell then crosses well from the right and Ings makes a decent flying connection, only for the keeper to tip away! The players are now being taken off with fans told there’s a “powercut”. Of course, we all want to see the game go ahead and Leeds to win (Spurs fan here) but it would asking for trouble, as well as legal minefield should the result affect the relegation battle at the end of the season.” At least that’s what I think the commentators mean by the need for a ‘level playing field’ which I would’ve assumed otherwise would be rather a given.”

Newcastle fans must be patient in their pursuit of glory in the Premier ... (Daily Mail)

I'd be gobsmacked if Newcastle are champions in under five years. For one thing, they were well behind Chelsea and even City were under new ownership.

A few like Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and maybe Alexander Isak could be around for the long-term but it would still need a massive overhaul. I'm afraid for Newcastle fans they'll have to be more patient than that, even though [Eddie Howe](/sport/eddie-howe/index.html) has done an outstanding job and exceeded expectations so far, going to Old Trafford on Sunday looking to break into the top six. When the Saudi takeover happened, they were fighting relegation.

- Miguel Almiron is vying to score in three consecutive Premier League appearances for the first time. - The Magpies have scored nine goals in their last two league fixtures, compared to just eight in their opening seven. - Newcastle are vying to score at least four goals in three consecutive league matches for the first time since October 1961. That should make things more open, which might help Manchester United. - Manchester United have won five of their past six Premier League games - as many victories as in their previous 18 fixtures. But I fancy Newcastle because they have been taking the game to their opposition, and the goals have started to flow - they have scored nine in their past two matches.

It is a foul on Fabinho and then Alisson has a hand on the ball. And if they do drag themselves back into the title race, we will look back at this game as the catalyst for what what got Liverpool back on track. “To play a normal game against them and hope you get something for it you have to play to your limits, and further. Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is on track to score 63 Premier League goals this season (the record in a 38-game campaign is 32) and he has 20 goals in 13 games in all competitions. Haaland had a couple of opportunities towards the end of the half but Liverpool were solid enough and looked a threat on the break. This was a crucial battle in the game and Van Dijk and Gomez won it for Liverpool. In the end one mistake from Cancelo cost them and a draw was a fair result, but City overcomplicated things in a big game and paid the price. He kept plugging away, tried to get on the ball and turn in dangerous areas and Maddison is playing with creativity and freedom in a team which looks set for a scrap against relegation. There is a real lack of confidence about this team and the fans have turned against the manager. Tim Ream, Antonee Robinson keep asking big question of Berhalter (Fulham 2-2 Bournemouth): This is over-simplifying, but if your center back position is unsettled before a World Cup and a possible starter on the side in question is playing every week next to your left back in a Premier League side, how do you not at least bring Tim Ream to the tournament with Antonee Robinson? Klopp will now face a period in the stands but his team has shown it has not yet been sidelined in this title race. Cristiano Ronaldo was not on his game, twice offsides on a disallowed goal and later receiving a yellow card for taking a dead ball off Nick Pope and rolling it in the goal.
