4 observations after the Mavericks fall to the Suns, 107-105 (Mavs Moneyball)

A rowdy Phoenix crowd greeted Dallas and the opening minutes of the game were a back and forth affair. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with early scoring and the ...

Dallas had just six field goals in the whole quarter, with Luka Doncic hitting two shots in the first two minutes and Wood hitting two in the final minute. With Jason Kidd opting to put Christian Wood on the bench, the Mavericks weren’t able to hold the lead and the Suns took a 105-100 lead with 1:37 remaining. Dallas lived in the bonus, getting into it early in the first three quarters. Phoenix whittled the lead down to one point with a minute left, but Christian Wood would make to baskets to give Dallas an 81-76 lead heading into the fourth. If you opted not to stay up late, then one thing that isn’t reflected in the box score is the really stellar defense of third year forward Josh Green. Then Jason Kidd opted to pull Christian Wood, probably for defensive purposes, at a moment in the fourth when he was absolutely on fire. Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with early scoring and the Suns answered in kind with a team effort. An early Luka Doncic three extended the lead back up to 20, but when Spencer Dinwiddie getting his fourth foul just a minute into the third quarter, it started a sequence of really poor Maverick play. Following a Suns timeout, Devin Booker attempted to will Phoenix back into things, but Luka Doncic kept pouring it on, with 13 in the period. The Maverick bench unit poured it on quickly, with Spencer Dinwiddie and Tim Hardaway Jr. Dallas kept pressing and with the exception of missed free throws, played an outstanding quarter, leading by 15 points or more for the final eight minutes of the half. Devin Booker led the Suns with 28 points and nine assists.

Damion Lee Nails Difficult Game-Winner in Season-Opener vs ... (CalBearsMaven)

The former Louisville men's basketball guard lifted the Suns over the Mavericks thanks to an improbable game-winning shot.

He signed two way contracts with Golden State over the next two seasons, before inking a multi-year contract during the 2019-20 season. In 14 games during the 2022 NBA Playoffs, Lee averaged just 1.9 points over 8.3 minutes, though he did set a career playoff-high 10 points in game five of the Western Conference semifinals against the Memphis Grizzlies. His efforts off the bench helped the Suns rally from a 22-point deficit to Luka Doncic and the Mavs. Pinned on the right baseline by Dinwiddie, Lee took an unbalanced jumper while falling to his right over his defender, and drained the go-ahead shot with 9.7 seconds left. After spending the previous four years of his career with the Golden State Warriors playing alongside his brother-in-law in Steph Curry, Lee bet on himself, eventually signing with the Phoenix Suns in free agency. “Ball was in my hands, just go make a play,” Lee said, via the Associated Press.

NBA Odds: Mavericks vs. Suns prediction, odds and pick - 10/19/2022 (ClutchPoints)

The Dallas Mavericks will take on the Phoenix Suns in their season opener and we're diving into the NBA odds for their matchup.

In his age-36 season last year, Paul averaged 14.7 PPG and led the league in assists (10.8). Paul is one of the best point guards in the history of the sport. He averaged at least 21 points in each of his first four seasons and averaged at least 27 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in each of the last three years. The Suns went 64-18 and were the Western Conference’s top seed before bowing out to the Mavericks. He led the team in points (28.4), rebounds (9.1), assists (8.7), and steals (1.2). The Dallas Mavericks (0-0) visit the Phoenix Suns (0-0) to kick off the 2022-23 NBA season. After trading away Kristaps Porzingis and losing Jalen Brunson in free agency, the Mavericks are looking for someone to play second fiddle to Luka. In 23 games after being traded to the Mavericks, Dinwiddie averaged 15.8 PPG. They went 52-30 in the regular season en route to the Western Conference’s 4th playoff seed. Phoenix was 51-44 ATS last season (53.7%). However, in their most recent meeting, Dallas won Game 7 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals in Phoenix by 33 points. Overall, Dallas was 57-41-2 ATS last season (58.2%).

I love the prop as I think Spencer has a chance to get this with just his points alone. When looking at the first basket prop its essential to look at who is winning the tip. Booker will have to carry the scoring load for the Suns to remain competitive and he is more than capable of doing that. It is interesting to look at yesterday’s O/U for the Celtics/Sixers and Warriors/Lakers. I will be staying away from the O/U however, if I was to pick one, I would lean over as the trend seems to be that way so far this year with new rules in place. With it being the first game of the year it’s difficult to know how much rust will be there for each team.

We get a rematch of the Western Conference Finals for the two teams' first game of the season. Kade Kimble gives his Phoenix Suns vs.

We have to move on and focus on the Browns." He had a great showing in Triple-A — as he has throughout much of his career — and earned a 16-game look with the Giants late in the year. It's early on in the season and we aren't where we're supposed to be, but it means a lot to him." Jackson sees this week as a time for the Ravens to get on a roll. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1968 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1959. In the fifth inning, with Aaron pitching for the Phillies and Austin at the plate for the Padres, the oldest brother put both siblings in the record books. “It was a bank error, and we have reached out to the bank to determine what happened, and to ensure it doesn’t happen again.” The bounced check adds to the recent negative headlines surrounding the team. The NFL and NFLPA made modifications to the league's concussion protocols following Tagovailoa's pair of highly publicized on-field incidents in Week 3 against the Buffalo Bills and in Week 4 against the Bengals. Nimmo is somewhat quietly one of the better outfielders in the sport, and he could be rewarded for his excellent platform season with a nine-figure deal. In a move many expected, Prescott has officially been cleared to return to action and will start Week 7 against the Detroit Lions. He could provide a huge spark for the Suns if he’s able to dominate in the low post, which is a big possibility. It’ll be a fresh season and a new start for the Suns, the top-seeded team in the Western Conference last season.

Mavericks vs Suns Picks and Predictions: Fading Busy, Banged Up ... (Covers.com)

NBA odds, picks, and predictions for the Dallas Mavericks at Phoenix Suns on October 19. NBA betting best bet and free pick analysis.

Last year, the Mavericks ranked dead last in the league in pace. That stands in stark contrast with the Suns, who ranked fifth in scoring at 113.8 points per game and eighth in pace. Instead, I’m favoring the Suns in this matchup for a couple of reasons. That’s mostly due to Dallas’ style of play, which has been slow and deliberate in the regular season. The Mavericks are without guard Jalen Brunson, who departed for the New York Knicks in the offseason. He shot 32.6% from behind the arc in those games (compared to 35.3% for the season) and made just 69.8% of his free throws (down from 74.4% for the year). Doncic would later turn on the gas and overcome that slow start, leading the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals. While Doncic will put up MVP-quality numbers this season, he looks to be in line for yet another slow start. Dallas has eased Doncic back into the season, slowly ramping him up in their preseason workouts after his heavy workload this summer. The world has been waiting for Luka Doncic to rise from a perennial All-Star to an MVP winner, and this might be the year he does it. We’ll break down what you should expect to see in this season opener in our [NBA betting picks and predictions](https://www.covers.com/nba/picks) below. Dallas finished off Phoenix with a 33-point win on the road in Game 7.

'It's a little different': Mavericks' JaVale McGee on facing former team ... (AZCentral.com)

McGee was a Phoenix Suns backup center during the 2021-22 season when they lost to Dallas in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals.

So a little bit of familiarity, but I’m really excited and he’s a great coach and his demeanor is tiered to none. But I mean it’s amazing playing with two different players who are All-Stars, who are perennial All-Stars, who are amazing players, who are brains of the game and the way they see the floor is amazing. But Luka’s a little bit younger and he has a little bit more upside, as he should. Even at the 3, even at the lob, the stuff he can see, his peripheral vision is crazy. It’s a little different for sure. So it’s a lot of responsibility that I’m ready to take up on.”
