Early reviews of Enola Holme 2 are calling it a charming, comedic thrill ride, with Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill shining in their roles.
Others praised the film for finding its footing once again, riffing on the idea of the "game is afoot." Enola Holmes 2 also sees the return of two-time Emmy winner Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag) on the director's chair, and the screenplay is once again written by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials). Once again, the movie centers around Enola (Brown), a young detective who solves difficult cases in 19th century London – all the while trying to get out from under the shadow of her much more popular brother detective Sherlock (Cavill).

The story in Enola Holmes 2 is secondary to the jokes — a large percentage of which are Brown adorably mugging to the camera — and general vibe, but it isn't without a message. She, like others in her run-down part of town, works for a local matchstick factory. The point is: Enola is having fun, and Brown, a natural born comic with a hydrogen bomb's worth of screen charisma, turns what could be just another disposable tween-and-teens romp into a genuine delight.

It's hard to say how much “Enola Holmes,” the younger sister of Sherlock Holmes story adapted from the YA fiction series of the same name by Nancy Springer, ...
In the end, the conspiracy unravels and crescendos in a big symphonic scene of fisticuffs and derdoing; Holmes against Thewlis’ Inspector, Holmes talking on some thugs, and Tewkesbury doing his best to defend Holmes’ honor using his bloody face as a shield. It also should be said that both Brown and Cavill are terrific in these roles, Brown uber charismatic and Cavill fitting into the solemn, probing, introspective character like a glove. But rather than receiving a flood of new clients, she received a torrent of confused clientele who confused her ad in the papers as being part of Sherlock Holmes’ operation and being aghast that a young girl could possibly solve any crimes—a nice first stumbling block for the character given the hopeful, optimistic, possibly naïve note she began on. But despite the A-list team all returning for the sequel, the frisson is gone, and “Enola Holmes 2” feels much more elementary, primary, and uninspired. Directed by Harry Bradbeer, known for his work on the crisp and sharp “Fleabag” and “Killing Eve”—both of which the talented and charismatic Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote on, creating the former—one could have easily mistaken “Enola Holmes” coming from the Phoebe Waller-Bridge factory and school of writing. Sure, “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobbie Brown led the movie, and Netflix gave it a sequel and called it a hit, but don’t they do that with everything?

Millie Bobby Brown revealed how Phoebe Waller-Bridge inspired her performance in 'Enola Holmes 2.'
“That reflected our idea that Enola, to advance, has to work with others and not just be reliant on herself. “There are many people who were in the U.K. It’s no longer about him, it’s about Enola and it’s about her story.” “There were Black scientists, doctors, princes, scholars — footballers who became soldiers and ended up coming back and getting medals. “It allows for a different shade to Sherlock because he’s a supporting character. “It’s so inspirational to me.
