The unwritten rules of trick or treating at Halloween (Hull Daily Mail)

Halloween is here again and on Monday evening, millions of children all over the country will don their scariest costumes and head out trick or treating.

"Happy Halloween" tends to be the phrase of choice these days, especially for young children. Blue pumpkins are often associated with autism, while teal and purple pumpkins are becoming popular with parents of youngsters with allergies, food intolerances or health issues they would like their neighbours to be aware of. Only knock at houses with decorations: Perhaps the most importatn rule of all: when you're taking the kids out trick-or-treating, only take them to houses that have put up Halloween decorations, or at the very least have a pumpkin in the window. Only take one sweet per house: Unless invited to take more, it's become the polite thing to only take one sweet per house when offered. There's nothing worse than feeling the people you're opening the door to are just looking to fill their pockets with sweets. After around 8.30pm, you'll risk being a nuisance to your neighbours who may be winding down after the evening's Halloween fun.
