Here's everything you need to know before the Chicago Bulls take on the Charlotte Hornets in their ninth game of the 2022-23 regular season.
has done an admirable job of filling in for LaMelo Ball thus far, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that this Hornets team was already a lottery team last season and is currently down its two best players from last year’s roster in LaMelo and Miles Bridges. Playing LaVine against the better team was a gamble that paid off far better than it did against Philadelphia and San Antonio over the weekend. Gambling odds and information courtesy of FanDuel. With LaMelo Ball still recuperating from injury, the Hornets lack their captain to steer the ship through these rough early season waters. Still, they’ve also dropped games against bottom-feeder teams like the Magic and Kings, so there’s no telling just what version of the Hornets we’ll see tonight. With their next six contests coming against the Celtics, Raptors, Nuggets, and Pelicans, this matchup against Charlotte feels a lot more like a must-win game.

The Charlotte Hornets visit the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bulls. We continue our NBA odds series with a Hornets-Bulls prediction.
The Bulls are in the second game of a back-to-back but looked impressive against the Nets. Ayo is coming off one of his better games of the season against Brooklyn. DeRozan has cooled off some after back-to-back 30-point games to start the season but is in a good position to have a huge night. He provides Chicago with some much-needed shot creation in the absence of LaVine. In his absence, expect Alex Caruso to return to the starting lineup. Hayward is in the midst of a comeback season in which he’s averaging 18.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while shooting 49.5% from the floor. They’re below average on the glass (23rd in rebound differential), but do a good job taking care of the ball (11th in turnovers per game). On Monday he scored 28 points and drained three threes on 57% shooting against the Kings. Prior to that, he raked up 31 points and 7 rebounds against the Warriors. The Bulls are now 4-3-1 against the spread – an improvement over last year’s 51% cover rate. Charlotte stole the finale in Chicago by 16. Four of their seven games have gone over after a slight under-preference last season (52%).
Zach LaVine (left knee injury management), Andre Drummond (left shoulder sprain) and Coby White (left quadricep contusion) are all questionable for the ...
White suffered his injury some time during Saturday's 114-109 loss to the 76ers and has experienced swelling in his left quad. On the Hornets' side, LaMelo Ball (left ankle sprain) is out, while Terry Rozier (right ankle sprain) and Cody Martin (left quad soreness) are doubtful. Drummond, meanwhile, continues to nurse a shoulder sprain suffered last Friday against the Spurs.

Tonight, your Chicago Bulls hope to ride the momentum of their very satisfying 108-99 victory over the Brooklyn Nets Tuesday to a second straight win on the ...
A fun Charlotte wrinkle: well-traveled point guard Dennis Smith Jr., a former lottery pick in the Lauri Markkanen draft, is starting in the stead of the sidelined LaMelo and finally playing well under new (and old) Hornets head coach Steve Clifford. Assuming Zach is indeed rested, the scoring burden falls largely on the very capable shoulders of Chicago’s other All-Star, DeMar DeRozan. Patrick Williams had probably his best game of the season at Barclays, scoring 12 points while shooting 5-of-10 from the floor, pulling down seven rebounds, stuffing two blocks, and chipping in an assist and a steal for good measure. Despite suffering through several injuries of their own already this year, the Hornets boast a chippy 3-4 record, including victories over solid clubs like the Atlanta Hawks and the Golden State Warriors. That most likely means that Billy Donovan will add defensive stalwart Alex Caruso back into the team’s starting backcourt alongside Ayo Dosunmu. Here’s hoping that continues against a Charlotte frontcourt that has often given the Bulls trouble — specifically, frequent Bulls slayer P.J.
Before the game, if someone told you that to guess the score if DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine would combine for 19 points, it probably wouldn't have been in ...
Green was the MVP of the game as he continues to grow as a player here. but as a team they struggled to stretch the floor. was the third Bull off the bench to record double figures in points with 10 along with five rebounds. He was effective playing the backup center role in the absence of Andre Drummond as Billy Donovan used him in the small ball lineups. Goran Dragic also had 16 points off the bench as he continues his strong start to the year. This was the same play we saw from Williams in Brooklyn where he was aggressive on offense, looking for his shot and more importantly putting himself in good positions to receive the ball.
CHICAGO (AP) On an off night for two of Chicago's biggest stars, Javonte Green and the rest of the Bulls picked up the slack.
Bulls: C Andre Drummond (sprained left shoulder) missed his third straight game, and G Coby White (left quad) was out for the second straight game. The Bulls beat the Celtics 120-104 on Oct. ... G LaMelo Ball (left ankle sprain), F Cody Martin (left quad soreness) and G Terry Rozier (right ankle sprain) remained out with injuries. He scored a total of 59 points in his previous two games. The All-Star guard had left knee surgery in May, and the team is closely monitoring his workload. Green sparked the decisive stretch with a rebound dunk after LaVine's fast-break shot was blocked by James Bouknight.
The Hornets, bad already, were not only still without their Ball point guard like the Bulls, but additionally were missing Terry Rozier and Cody Martin.
Most worrisome is that the make percentage is so poor: from 0-3 feet LaVine is shooting 50% (70% last two seasons, I’m not digging into what it was post-knee-sprain) and from 3-10 feet he’s at 25% (~40% last two seasons). Goran Dragic continues to be a godsend, especially in these games where a bench boost is sorely needed. Williams is more just taking the opportunities that were always there, and I suppose playing against bad defenses helps too. And I don’t think it’s because Billy Donovan is doing anything different to ‘boost his confidence and get the kid going’. I suppose they just lost to a bad team missing mid players in San Antonio just last weekend, so nothing is, like, assuring. Somewhat competitive in the first half, but then Gordon Hayward was out for the second, and in that latter half Charlotte scored 36 points and had 11 turnovers.
