Though the calculated fault orientations from the two earthquakes are similar (compressional, thrust pair), the aftershock configurations are distinctly different, suggesting a fault geometry that curves to the right and steepens as it extends northward. The most recent epicenter was located only about 18 kilometers (11 miles) from where the July earthquake struck.
