The Detroit Pistons visit the Miami Heat on Tuesday night. We continue our NBA odds series with a Pistons-Heat prediction and pick.
On paper, the Heat should dominate the glass against a weak Detroit frontcourt. The 33-year-old shoots 49.5% from the field and 35.3% from three. If Miami wants to cover a hefty spread, they will need to be much better on the glass. They struggle on the glass as well, ranking 25th in rebound differential and 23rd in rebound rate. Look for Miami to dominate in what should be a get-right game. He’s in the midst of one of the most efficient seasons of his career as well. Despite a plethora of young talent, the Pistons have quickly fallen from the ranks in the East and now find themselves firmly in the mix for the top pick in next summer’s NBA draft. The 33-year-old continues to improve his overall game and is flirting with a 50-40-90 season thus far. The Heat are 8-15-1 against the spread while 54% of their games have gone over. Detroit also struggles to rebound the ball, ranking 26th in rebound differential and 18th in rebound rate. The Pistons are 12-11-2 against the spread while 63% of their games have gone under. That being said, the Pistons do have a number of exciting young players.
The tankathon for next year's coveted number one pick has been a spectacular watch with the Detroit Pistons throwing their hat in the ring by resting star.
[Bam Adebayo](https://www.lineups.com/nba/player-stats/bam-adebayo) [Caleb Martin](https://www.lineups.com/nba/player-stats/caleb-martin) [Jimmy Butler](https://www.lineups.com/nba/player-stats/jimmy-butler) [Tyler Herro](https://www.lineups.com/nba/player-stats/tyler-herro) [Bojan Bogdanovich](https://www.lineups.com/nba/player-stats/bojan-bogdanovich) [Saddiq Bey](https://www.lineups.com/nba/player-stats/saddiq-bey) [Jaden Ivey](https://www.lineups.com/nba/player-stats/jaden-ivey) [Killian Hayes](https://www.lineups.com/nba/player-stats/killian-hayes) As previously stated, the Piston’s scoring production has taken a massive hit without Cade Cunningham’s versatility on the court. While he’s been a capable scorer, he struggles to generate his own shot and will most likely get one of the best on ball defenders in Jimmy Butler on him in this one. Without Cade Cunningham, the Piston’s scoring prowess has taken a major dip without his versatility in distributing and passing. With the Miami Heat out matching the Pistons on both ends and potentially making this one sided quickly, I will take the under.

That has me pegging this game to be lower scoring, even with the struggles of the Detroit defense. The Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers have both recently beaten Detroit while scoring under 110 points, and as I noted earlier, the Clippers did so in a 96-91 win earlier this season. The Pistons do tend to play well above this number, averaging about a 229 total in their games so far this season. That has me looking at Herro as the man of the hour in tonight’s game. As long as I can still get 8.5 points, I’m inclined to back Detroit on the spread tonight. While Butler and Herro have both missed significant time this year, the Heat should have all three of their best weapons in the lineup tonight. It’s worth noting that the Heat are coming off a back-to-back as well, having lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 101-93 on Monday night. [Detroit Pistons](https://www.covers.com/sport/basketball/nba/teams/main/detroit-pistons) have been one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They also like to play at a slower pace than most of the league, which tends to keep their games a bit slower and lower scoring. Detroit allows opponents to put up 118.2 points per game, ranking the Pistons 29th in overall defense. But it’s been on the other end of the court that the Pistons are losing games. Detroit has lost four of five games to drop to 6-19, good for 14th place in the Eastern Conference.
Herro scored 34 points for Miami, but Pistons came away with a convincing road win.
It’s nice to see Detroit put it all together against good teams on the road sometimes. Shorthanded or not, the Heat got their ass kicked by the Pistons in the second half. He made better decisions than he did against Memphis and moved the ball really well. Bogey scored 28 of his 31 points in the second half, knocking down 7 triples and dishing 5 assists. With Butler and Gabe Vincent shelved, the Heat bench allowed Detroit to weather the storm. Killian Hayes also continued his nice stretch shooting the ball, hitting a pair of threes while handing out six assists.
