We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Alchemy of Souls season 2, episode 1, which contains significant spoilers.
As Bu-yeon acknowledges her need to speak with Seo Yul before she gets caught, wanting to consider her options ahead of potential permanent isolation, she spots Jang Uk, recalling him being called the “strongest man in the world.” So she subsequently decides to sit down and speak with him, revealing her identity as the eldest daughter of Jinyowon, in addition to her mother’s wish for her to secretly bring in a husband to her room so an heir can be birthed. When we see her next, she has been transported to a place where Jang Uk is waiting, and his agreement that Bu-yeon might be of use brings about a warm embrace. Tearily, Bu-yeon drops the petal symbolizing her hope in the water, no longer believing she will be saved now she is well on the way to her wedding destination. “You are only alive thanks to that stone,” he is told, but the sidelined mage seems to embrace the idea of death if it would mean such an overwhelming source of power would be gone from inside him and destroyed. Plus, Jang Uk acknowledges he is too strong to be considered a “splinter” by the Crown Prince, who remains annoyed by his adversary’s “mocking” actions. When Jang Uk is told by Park Jin exactly who Bu-yeon is, and the “divine powers” she had that would’ve seen her grow incredibly strong, he wonders if such a person could extract the ice stone from within him. Continuing, we see Bu-yeon has exited Jinyowon in a bid to find her future husband, and has arrived at his temporary residence to find out more about who this may be. Elsewhere, Jang Uk drinks to help withstand the demands of the “unsightly” wraiths that surround him over his use of the sky’s energy. But Jang Uk is in a playful mood, happy to lie about wraiths being in the duo’s presence, and highlight the fact he has no qualms being rewarded for atoning for his sins. For Jang Uk ends up finding his way to Bu-yeon once the soul shifter is disposed of, causing the two to have a private meeting which hints at a potential future partnership between the two. Jang Uk ( [Lee Jae-wook](https://readysteadycut.com/person/Lee-Jae-wook/)) has taken an intriguing new turn, the addition of Jin Bu-yeon ( [Jung So-min](https://readysteadycut.com/person/Jung-So-min/)) is proving worthwhile, and teases of future complications bring about plenty of reason to keep tuning in. Jang Uk is not as lively as he used to be in the first part and the audience must be sad after seeing that he is living his life in despair. We recap the Netflix K-Drama series Alchemy of Souls season 2, episode 2, which contains significant spoilers.
Then, as Bu-yeon tells her mother she won’t be returning to her room now she is married, and the monster hunter asks for the shocked Unanimous Assembly’s blessing, the episode ends. “The leader of Jinyowon is old, which means her power is weakening day by day,” Jin Mu adds, exposing the need for Bu-yeon to be brought to the Unanimous Assembly and made the area’s heir so the artefacts and relics can be stopped from changing hands. Next, Bu-yeon comes to believe she’ll stay with Jang Uk for a little while longer when Maidservant Kim confirms she will be receiving three days’ worth of medicine for her recovery from the soul shifter incident. But she also says she has given her heart to someone else, clearly influenced by her earlier remembrance that Jang Uk may have in fact eventually had what would count as a wedding drink, in addition to her concern for his “painful” past. Additionally, Cheonbugwan’s leader tells Ho-gyeong the Unanimous Assembly will suggest Jinyowon’s artefacts and relics are moved, explaining that “the duty to protect Jinyowon could get passed on to a different family.” The area’s leader brands this as nonsense, but is sternly told this is the consequence for keeping doors closed for three years. Concurrently, Bu-yeon finds herself needing to be rescued by Jang Uk when recklessly following the strange energy of a soul shifter. “Bu-yeon’s body has no divine powers, and Naksu’s soul has no memory, so the body and soul do not conflict,” Lee Cheol explained to Ho-gyeong three years ago, before stating that if Bu-yeon’s powers do return, Naksu’s memory will likely follow. Jang Uk adds he has no reason to be inhospitable given he needs his partner too, so asks her to do as she wishes. Elsewhere, Lee Cheol reveals to Ho-gyeong that he would not be surprised if Bu-yeon ran away should she have regained her memories, given the soul inside the body is Naksu’s. When Jang Uk admits he needs the “divine powers” of his partner, it seems to awaken some understanding of self in Bu-yeon. “Just think of Jang Uk as a tool that helps you utilise the energy of the sky,” Jin Mu cynically utters. After Jang Uk confirms Bu-yeon isn’t a soul shifter (he wanted to check given she used to be blind, but can now see), he draws boundaries with his new partner, refusing to answer any questions on Naksu.

Episode 2 of Alchemy of Souls Season 2 starts with Jinyowon out desperate to try and find Bu-Yeon. Her boat has just disappeared, and that's because she's ...
The explanation is decent enough to carry this one and it helps to usher in a new era with Jang-Uk, who wants to use her divine powers. In fact, she projects this over to Naksu, telling her that now she’s been unveiled to the whole Kingdom, she needs to stay there to protect their family, especially as she doesn’t have any divine powers. This actually occurs while she’s walking to greet all the officials, introduced as the official heir of Jinyowon. Naksu’s soul is what’s inside, along with her memories, which Ho-Gyeong decided to imprison and lock up, playing out the façade that Bu-Yeon is still alive. Cho-yeon struggles to listen to this, as she decides Naksu will need to stay imprisoned in her room again. Jang-Uk shows though and immediately saves her, pulling Naksu out and making swift work of the Soul Shifter. Meanwhile, the possessed man with strange serpent-like eyes shuffles past Naksu (we’ll call her Naksu from now on in these recaps!) and heads deeper into the palace. Jang-Uk looks deep into her eyes and can’t see the mark of the Soul Shifters. The person who treated her also told her that once she gets her memory back, she will also get her divine powers too. In fact, her soul was actually what was locked up inside the body. She wants to be carried, but Jang-Uk is quick to point out how heavy she is and suggests she de-robe instead.
