Twitter Puts Gold Check-Marks on Business Accounts as Part of ... (Variety)

Elon Musk's Twitter is replacing the former blue check-marks with gold ones for companies and brands.

[According to Musk](https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1602466059579232257), the basic Twitter Blue service also will have “half the number of ads,” while the company plans to offer “a higher tier with no ads next year.” 12 relaunched Twitter Blue](https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/twitter-blue-relaunch-blue-check-mark-imposters-1235456618/), the subscription service that includes a blue check-mark — with new measures to prevent the deluge of “verified” impersonators that flooded the service when Musk first mandated the Twitter Blue revamp last month. “Without significant subscription revenue, there is a good chance Twitter will not survive the upcoming economic downturn,” Musk wrote in an email to employees last month, adding that the company needs “roughly half of our revenue to be [from] subscription[s].” “The way in which they were given out was corrupt and nonsensical,” the billionaire [tweeted](https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1602407011106361362) Monday. Elon Musk's new Twitter Blue logo is perfectly awful (Fast Company)

The '80s throwback logo is shiny, poorly kerned, and barely legible. But it's also an accurate representation of what Twitter has become.

It’s “more is more” to try to make money out of a burning trash can full of bad ideas. But, unlike Musk, Jobs was obsessed with design, had impeccable taste in typography, and the NeXT logo is the summary of every good design principle that the Twitter Blue logo lacks. It’s just gross and barely legible; the shiny color version can’t be reproduced anywhere in any reliable way, and it doesn’t even fit Twitter’s own corporate standards (this thing doesn’t even attempt to be blue, it’s purple and pink and whatever… Today, we can simply marvel at the train wreck that is the Twitter Blue logo—a garish ’80s throwback of a word mark that’s meant to promote the recently [relaunched subscription](https://www.fastcompany.com/90823516/twitter-blue-subscription-legacy-blue-check-ios) service. Elon Musk's Twitter disbands its Trust and Safety Council (USA TODAY)

Former Twitter employee Patricia Cartes, whose job it was to form the council in 2016, said Monday its dissolution “means there’s no more checks and balances." The email said Twitter was “reevaluating how best to bring external insights” and the council is “not the best structure to do this.” The Trust and Safety Council, in fact, had as one of its advisory groups one that focused on child exploitation. Shortly after buying Twitter for $44 billion in late October, Musk said he would form a new “content moderation council” to help make major decisions but later changed his mind. “At no point was it a governing body or decision making.” The council had been scheduled to meet with Twitter representatives Monday night.

Which, I suspect, will end up getting a few million sign-ups, maybe. Essentially, what I’m saying is that while Twitter is pitching potential ad-reduced and ad-free models for Twitter Blue in future, I wouldn’t hold my breath, as those options will be dependent on large-scale take-up of the initial $8 checkmark offering.
