Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse promises a whole new slate of Spider-themed characters, voiced by Oscar Isaac, Issa Rae, and Daniel Kaluuya.

If you’d like to go into Across the Spider-Verse only knowing about the characters that Sony has said are definitely in the movie, stop reading here! Things got weird, but the key thing is that there is a spider version of Peter Parker who hangs out with his pals like “Bruce Bananner.” (Nearby is another Spider-person who appears to be wearing a variant of the Spider-Armor MK II suit, also seen in Insomniac’s PlayStation game.) Whether voice actors Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter will voice those characters — or whether they’re just background cameos — is unknown. For example, Leopardon already [had a blink-or-you’ll-miss-it cameo](https://screenrant.com/spider-man-spider-verse-japanese-spider-man-cameo/) in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. But if you’ve been anywhere on the internet, you’re probably familiar with at least a few screenshots and GIFs of the bizarre partnership between the Toei Company and Marvel Comics. Voiced by: Unknown Created for the first Spider-Verse event in Marvel Comics, Hobie Brown is Spider-Man by way of classic British punk culture. In Spider-Verse, he seemed to already have discovered the multiverse, and is about to use a universe-hopping watch of Lyla’s invention to travel it purposefully. This is Miguel O’Hara, or, colloquially, “Spider-Man 2099.” This Spider-Man, So, who is stepping up to the bat — er, spider? It’s got to look just as good, if not better; excite just much, if not more; and introduce a slew of new Spider-themed heroes to rival the first movie’s already pretty wild lineup of Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider, Spider-Ham, Peni Parker, and Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir.

Another sequel is already in the works, along with a Spider-Woman spinoff film.

Another sequel is already in the works, along with a spinoff featuring Steinfeld and Rae's incarnations of Spider-Woman, as well as the character of Cindy Moon/Silk. The primary villain this time around is the Spot (Jason Schwartzman), whose body is covered in inter-dimensional portals designed to look like "living ink that had spilled or splattered on a comic artist's drawing." ) We also glimpse Earth-50101 (aka "Mumbattan," meshing together of Manhattan and Mumbai). A highlight of the new trailer is the six distinct animation styles used for the universe of each incarnation of Spider-Man—very much a deliberate creative choice. Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The first trailer just dropped, and it looks like another trippy, universe-hopping fun ride—hopefully a worthy successor to one of the best films of 2018.

5 things we learned from the 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ... (Inverse)

The highly anticipated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel takes us on a leap of faith.

“We’re supposed to be the good guys,” Gwen says in the trailer’s final moments, to which Miguel responds: “We are.” A clash of ideals has always been a favored conflict for Spider-Man films, and it’s clear that Across the Spider-Verse will be following that well-trodden path. It’s a bit wild to see so many Spidey variants in one place, especially after the events of Into the Spider-Verse, which proved that no Spider-Person can survive in a universe that isn’t their own. A version of Pavitr’s own universe, Mumbhattan, was teased in the very first trailer for the Spider-sequel, so to see that Pavitr himself really will be joining the fray — and with such an amazing new design — is music to our ears. “She wanted kids,” Peter told Miles in Into the Spider-Verse, “and it scared me.” But with a new crop of heroes set to appear in the sequel, it might be a hard lesson to remember. In Across the Spider-Verse, Miles and Gwen discover a sort of pocket realm where hundreds of Spider-People have gathered. Into the Spider-Verse inarguably set a new precedent for ensemble casts, considering that the major players in the film are all variants of one familiar hero. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a one in a million feat. There’s a lot to glean from the new footage, but let’s take a look at a few of the most important developments coming up in Across the Spider-Verse. She’s also seen dueling with a Vulture variant in the trailer, likely the version voiced by Jorma Taccone. [Into the Spider-Verse](https://www.inverse.com/article/51274-spider-man-into-the-spider-verse-review-animated-and-best) leaned heavily on Miles’ relationship with his father figures, Across the Spider-Verse is shedding new light on his dynamic with his mother Rio (Luna Lauren Vélez). Ironically, Sony Pictures will have to answer this question with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the first of a few planned sequels.
