Gameday update: Pelicans at Suns (12/17/2022) (Pelicans.com)

News and notes on a Saturday morning, as New Orleans prepares to face nemesis Phoenix for a third time in eight days.

New Orleans is shooting an outstanding 51 percent from the field against Phoenix this season, but most of that damage was done in the Crescent City, not in the Suns’ Footprint Center (the very shorthanded Pelicans finished at just 44 percent in Arizona on Oct. Notes: This group is 1-0, the ninth different starting lineup used by Phoenix this season (New Orleans has used eight). The 58 percent New Orleans compiled Sunday against the Suns represents a season high. That puts even more onus on the decorated Suns backcourt of Booker and Paul to produce, as well as Bridges and a cast of role players. The former New Orleans franchise point guard’s scoring and shooting numbers have dipped in Year 18, but his lone game of 20-plus points this season occurred against the Pelicans on Dec. The Xavier (Ohio) product is NOLA’s third-leading scorer against the Suns (CJ McCollum is second at 21.3). Notes: This group is 0-2, in place for the “baseball series” against the Jazz after Jones returned from a five-game injury absence, but Ingram remained sidelined. Pelicans is the kind of rivalry we need” (BasketballNews.com), “Pelicans and Suns renew young but bitter rivalry” (SI.com) and “Pelicans, Suns rivalry grows after Zion’s dunk” (NOLA.com). … The 2022 playoff Suns started Jae Crowder in what is now Craig’s forward spot; Crowder is not with the team. Williamson scored exactly 35 points in both wins last weekend over Phoenix, with his 34th and 35th in Friday’s matchup causing a bit of a stir (while appearing on every highlight reel across the nation). The Kentucky product shoots 38 percent on threes in Footprint Center, compared to 34 percent in away games. There seemed to be some debate prior to last weekend whether New Orleans and Phoenix have developed into genuine rivals, but it appears the verdict is in, particularly after a pair of intense battles inside the Smoothie King Center (not to mention a six-game postseason series in April).

Pelicans vs Suns Picks and Predictions: McCollum Gets Right (Covers.com)

NBA odds, picks, and predictions for the New Orleans Pelicans at Phoenix Suns on December 17. NBA betting best bet and free pick analysis.

Booker struggled with his shot against the Clippers (6-for-22 from the field) after dealing with a hamstring injury this week, but the Suns still shot 46% on Thursday night. The Pelicans got the better of the Suns in both games this month, with the second meeting going to overtime before New Orleans prevailed 129-124. The Pelicans still have something to prove on their travels against the top-tier Finals contenders. They’re 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games against a team with a home winning percentage greater than .600. The hosts’ offense looks a bit different with Bismack Biyombo at center, but that should just mean more touches for Bridges, who’s had two 27-point performances in his last three games. While the Pelicans are still without Brandon Ingram, these two teams are packed with reliable scorers. I like the New Orleans guard to continue his improved play here –—he should get up 15 or more field goal attempts and this prop doesn’t even require an elite scoring night. But New Orleans, briefly in top spot in the West, is sputtering a little after back-to-back losses to the Utah Jazz this week. New Orleans is also 1-9 ATS in its last 10 Saturday games. With Phoenix likely to throw double teams at Williamson when he gets deep post position, McCollum should get plenty of open looks and clear driving lanes tonight. But there have been encouraging signs of McCollum turning the corner over the past week. Clippers team snapped a five-game losing run, with Devin Booker returning after sitting out the prior two games.

We go over some of the best betting options for Saturday's matchup between the New Orleans Pelicans and Phoenix Suns.

Even with Ingram and Ayton out, the Pelicans and Suns should smash this number. Devin Booker coming back in the mix helps Phoenix but losing Ayton is a tough blow against this specific team. This rematch from the first round of the 2022 playoffs has been entertaining and this could be a low-key rivalry brewing in the Western conference.

Devin Booker's 58 points powers huge Suns' comeback vs. Pelicans (ESPN)

Devin Booker scored a season-high 58 points to help bring the Suns back from a 24-point deficit in the second half and beat the Pelicans on Saturday night.

"I've had the opportunity to play with a lot of greats -- Williamson had a solid game, shooting 12 of 15 from the field, but it was completely overshadowed by Booker's performance. Booker scored a stunning 25 points in a row for the Suns before Okogie's two free throws, making just about everything he tossed toward the rim as the home crowd roared. "You got to give respect when it is due," Williamson said. Booker scored 20 points in the third, willing his team back into contention. Booker prides himself as a team player and a willing passer, but on Saturday night, he realized he had the hot hand. This effort was even more impressive because it brought the Suns back from a 24-point deficit. Paul finished with 18 points and eight assists. "It is not enjoyable." "We couldn't throw it in the ocean if we had been on a boat," Williams said. The three-time All-Star made 21 of 35 shots, including 6 of 12 3-pointers. "I don't enjoy watching somebody score 58 points on us," Pelicans guard C.J.

NBA best bets: Best prop bets for Suns vs. Pelicans (Yardbarker)

The Phoenix Suns and New Orleans Pelicans will play their season series finale against each other tonight. Kade Kimble takes a look at the best prop bets ...

Including his 41-point game to open up the month of December, Booker is averaging 19.5 points per game on the month. Two of his last three games have been 28 and 29-point games for McCollum. I like him to shoot plenty and knock down at least three three-pointers. He’s also covered the over in 5 of his 7 games this month. [FanDuel has the best odds, click here to bet](https://wlfanduel.adsrv.eacdn.com/C.ashx?btag=a_25320b_2473c_&affid=11171&siteid=25320&adid=2473&c=) Without 25+ points from Booker, the Suns likely don’t win this game. Brandon Ingram is out, so there are still plenty of shots to go around. With no solid paint presence, Zion could absolutely dominate this game, as he did the last two times these teams met. With the number of injuries from both teams, this game could really go either way. He takes this matchup personally and he’s been on an absolute tear in the month of December.
