Raptors, Siakam fight hard vs. 76ers, but result remains the same (Sportsnet.ca)

He’s got a plethora of great shooters around him - the Sixers are third in the NBA in three-point percentage – and Embiid is figuring out how to leverage the attention he gets to benefit his teammates and vice-versa. But hope was a big part of the plan: Philadelphia outscored Toronto 35-23 in the quarter and led 57-46 at the half. Without the proper size to throw at the seven-foot-one, 300-pound Embiid, Nurse opted to start four forwards and a guard, VanVleet, with Scottie Barnes tasked with being the first defender on Embiid. Anunoby’s defence returned after his three-game absence due to a hip problem, but he could only manage 13 points in his 41 minutes and was exhausted at the end of it. “You gotta be careful not to over-react, and that goes for all us sitting in here,” Barnes said, referring to the media at his pre-game press availability. Win or lose, it was exactly the effort Raptors head coach Nick Nurse was looking for as he tried to make the case that no, the sky is not falling. The only other Raptor in double figures was Chris Boucher, who scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a spirited 30 minutes off the bench. The culprit was at least familiar: when it mattered most the Raptors couldn’t make a shot and they lost when their opponents did. He tied the game with a high, swooping finger roll off the top of the glass and in with 5.1 seconds to play that gave him his season-high 38 points for the game. The Raptors' recent woes have felt like more circumstance than a team beginning to fall in on itself, though it’s hard not to sense the pressure mounting. Sometimes teams just begin to let go of the rope – slowly at first – but then feel it ripping through their hands faster and faster until it’s beyond their ability to pull it back.

Raptors vs 76ers Picks and Predictions: Embiid Pours Salt in ... (Covers.com)

NBA odds, picks, and predictions for the Toronto Raptors at Philadelphia 76ers on December 19. NBA betting best bet and free pick analysis.

The 76ers are on an 11-game ATS hot streak at Wells Fargo Center. Though this Philadelphia offense looks to be in a great rhythm, keep in mind that these teams know each other well from their playoff series. The Raptors are on an ugly run — and that extends to their attempts at covering spreads. That doesn’t bode well for the visitors on the second night of a back-to-back set here without O.G. For a Raptors team short on confidence, the 6.5-point line is a big ask if you’re laying the points. Joel Embiid and the 76ers are heading in the opposite direction after extending their winning run to four by beating those same Warriors on Friday night. With Embiid rolling, he’s either getting point-blank looks at the rim or finding open teammates as defenses collapse around him. They’ve covered the spread in each of those games, riding Embiid’s offensive fireworks and flashes of vintage Harden. Toronto was carved up defensively by Jordan Poole last night and trailed by 15+ points for most of the night. But we’ve seen that movie before in the 2022 playoffs — Embiid is just too big and too skilled at this point in his career. Even during this alarming slide, Toronto has put up points. Make no mistake, the pressure is mounting in Toronto.

Sixers vs. Raptors takeaways: Latest win is a sign that improved ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

The Sixers won ugly against the Raptors on Monday night, with quite a few mishaps along the way.

And he made a pair of foul shots that gave the Sixers a 17-8 lead at the 5:00 mark of the quarter. But this is the second time in six games the Sixers decided not to go to him when he was their best player at the moment. However, Harris made his lone shot attempt — a three — in the fourth quarter. “When you do that, the other team probably at some point is probably going to make a run, and a lot of teams when they make a run, go the other way,” he said. Against Houston, the Sixers didn’t find Harris in the fourth quarter and overtime sessions. The last time led to a double-overtime road loss to the Houston Rockets on Dec. The Sixers shot just 31.6% in the first quarter. Despite his stellar start, Harris didn’t attempt a shot or score a point while playing 8:46 in the second quarter. The Sixers’ goal is to be atop of the standings at the conclusion of the regular season. Then he drained a 24-foot three-pointer at the midway point of the quarter. One of them is finding a way to keep Tobias Harris involved throughout the game. The Sixers’ closer-than-expected victory enabled them to extend their winning streak to five games for the first time since March 4 of last season.

Joel Embiid Assesses State of 76ers After Win vs. Raptors (Sports Illustrated)

Joel Embiid is happy with the 76ers' recent win streak, but notes there's always work to do.

In the end, the Sixers escaped Monday’s game with a 104-101 win. They made that run at the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth, but we reacted. Instead of panicking and struggling to battle back, the Sixers understood that hot shooters could cool down. A lot of teams, when they make a run, go the other way. We were up a lot the whole night. Although the Sixers led by as many as 14 points against a struggling and undermanned Raptors team, Rivers loved the way his team fought back after trailing by seven points down the stretch of the matchup and winning in overtime.
