This over/under seems a bit high, but the Pistons have been averaging 125 points over their last three games and still have one of the worst defenses in the league. Cunningham will miss the rest of the season, and Livers suffered a recent setback and will need to be evaluated again in a few weeks. Cade Cunningham and Isaiah Livers are both out for the Pistons. The Utah Jazz visit the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night. We continue our NBA odds series with a Jazz-Pistons prediction and pick.

Bogdanovic won’t fill up the box score outside of his scoring but he remains a solid defender and is a Bagley has been a solid contributor for the Pistons despite his minutes remaining sporadic. The X-factor for Detroit tonight has to be big man Marvin Bagley III. The Pistons are 16-13-3 against the spread while 58% of their games have gone over. The Jazz are 18-15 against the spread while 52% of their games have gone over. If there is one saving grace for the Pistons, it’s the play of forward Bojan Bogdanovic. Their biggest weakness, however, is on defense where they rank 29th in both points allowed and defensive rating. They’re better on the glass but still not great, ranking 24th in rebound differential and 16th in rebound rate. They are held back by a suspect defense, however, as they rank 23rd in points allowed and 25th in defensive rating. For the season Beasley has been a solid bench contributor, averaging 14.1 PPG on 41% shooting. That being said, he’s due for a bounce back and his consistency is something to keep in mind before making a Jazz-Pistons prediction. Forward Lauri Markkanen is in a great spot to help his team do just that given Detroit’s atrocious defense.

Jalen Duren and Jaden Ivey had their best collective nights in their young NBA careers.

It was good to see some restraint in his shot selection, trying not to attack or shoot just for the sake of shooting. It wasn’t just jumpers, getting to the line or just attacking the rim tonight as Ivey did a little bit of everything. After trailing by one at half, they were outscored by nine in the third. Detroit’s defense in general struggled to keep the Jazz off the 3-point line. They blew a big lead against the They’re terrible in the third quarter.

Rookies Ivey, Duren shine but Jazz bury Pistons under 3-point blizzard (Pistons.com)

Three quick observations from Tuesday night's 126-111 loss to the Utah Jazz at Little Caesars Arena.

Kessler did a good deal of his work in the fourth quarter, after the game was decided, after having six points and six rebounds through three quarters. The two rookies went head to head a good deal of the game with Duren finishing with a season-high tying 15 pints plus 14 rebounds and Kessler with 10 points and nine rebounds. But the flashes are exceptionally enticing, never more than in Tuesday’s first half when Ivey scored 18 points – scoring at all three levels and going a perfect 2 of 2 from the 3-point arc and 4 of 4 at the foul line – and added four assists. It wasn’t quite the same – the Pistons didn’t come out of the locker room lethargically this time – but they were still outscored by nine points when Utah used a late 10-2 run to open a 12-point lead and be up by 10 going to the fourth quarter when it got away from them. Utah finished 20 of 46 from the arc.The Pistons led Sacramento by eight at halftime on Friday and got hit with a 17-2 run in a dizzying three minutes out of the locker room, then got walloped by Kevin Durant’s 26-point third quarter in seeing a 17-point halftime lead over Brooklyn evaporate in a Sunday loss to the Nets. The Pistons did a lot of things well and got sparkling games from rookies Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren, but when you get outscored from the 3-point arc by 33 points it’s a big mountain to scale.
