Philadelphia 76ers vs. New York Knicks, NBA Christmas 2022: How ... (The Athletic)

The Philadelphia 76ers entered their Christmas Day matinee at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks having won seven straight games, ...

So many Knicks at this point have played really strong individual defense on James Harden, whether because he's their man or because they switched onto him. The 76ers' zone has slowed the Knicks' tempo, but the trade-off is that the Knicks are up to rebounding 32 percent of their misses, including several in the second quarter. But the Harden-Embiid pick-and-roll got going late, and after that completely unlikely Shake Milton half-court heave at the buzzer, they only go into the locker room trailing by three points. The Knicks have begun the second half spamming Julius Randle at the top of the key, which is understandable considering he scored 25 first-half points. Halftime has arrived with the 76ers down just 63-60 points to the Knicks thanks to a hot second quarter. The Knicks and 76ers combined to score on 17 of their first 20 third-quarter possessions. And it’s that specific type of sequence, with an overwhelming level of offensive talent choosing from a menu of appealing options to toy with even good opposing defenses, that makes you wonder how the Sixers arrived here at this point, just 2.5 games behind the best record in the NBA. Once the ball dropped through the net, Embiid walked to the corner to scream at the New York crowd. So, Embiid pointed at the man known as “The Minivan” to do just that while he stood in the corner. He was sitting on 31 points, a performance that had the makings of another monster night for the NBA’s scoring leader. They got a boost off the bench from Georges Niang, who nailed four 3s in the fourth quarter to finish with 16 points. Led by a dominant fourth quarter, the 76ers (20-12) defeated the Knicks (18-16), 119-112.

The Philadelphia 76ers travel to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks on Christmas Day. The Sixers (19-12), who have won seven in a row, ...

For Morant and the Grizzlies, this was a stage and a matchup they wanted. 25 record of 24-24, the most wins on the holiday in NBA history, one ahead of the Knicks. And the Lakers are appearing on Christmas for the 24th consecutive year. It’ll be Mavericks star Luka Doncic’s second Christmas game, after he and Dallas lost a road game to the Lakers in 2020. Before Giannis Antetokounmpo came along, the Bucks had played on Christmas only four times in their history. Fact: This is Boston’s 36th Christmas game, but only the fourth at home. Add in his coaching years, and this is the 17th time that Rivers has been part of a Christmas game — the 15th that will be a road game. The NBA’s Christmas quintupleheader is Sunday, with the Grizzlies and Ja Morant set to play on Dec. If he plays and the Lakers win, it’ll be James’ 11th time walking off as a Christmas winner — another record for NBA players. If James plays, it’ll be his 17th Christmas appearance, which will break a tie with Kobe Bryant for the most in NBA history. And the defending NBA champions getting into the holiday game action. The Knicks (18-15), who have won eight of 10, dropped a 118-117 decision to the Chicago Bulls on Friday.

76ers vs. Knicks Odds, Expert Pick & Prediction: Best Bets for NBA ... (The Action Network)

Chris Baker breaks down how to bet the Christmas Day NBA game between the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks.

Expect the Knicks offense to roll against this 76ers defense in this spot. I expect Mitchell Robinson and this Knicks front court to exert pressure on the 76ers on the glass. The Knicks don’t have the bigs to consistently contain Embiid down low. They lost both of those games and allowed a ridiculous 37.5% offensive rebound rate to the Grizz, as well as an insane 45.5% offensive rebound rate to the Rockets. The 76ers rank 28th in defensive rebound rate on the season. With the way Julius Randle, RJ Barrett and Quentin Grimes have been shooting lately, you would have to expect that number to positively regress toward their average. They’ve climbed to eighth in adjusted net rating and sit comfortably at sixth in the Eastern Conference. The 76ers will be without Tyrese Maxey in this one, but Harden and Embiid are both back, so we should see the 76ers improve their offense efficiency this time around. Keep in mind that the 76ers played that game without their two primary playmakers: James Harden and Joel Embiid. I expect Harden to have tons of success playmaking for his teammates in this one. During this winning streak, they have played four teams that rank in the bottom seven of adjusted net rating, and they have played all seven of their games at home. The 76ers are traveling to New York on Christmas as winners of seven straight games.

76ers' PJ Tucker Reveals Injury, Plans to Play vs. Knicks (Sports Illustrated)

76ers veteran forward PJ Tucker is battling an injury, but that won't keep him out against the Knicks on Christmas.

In Wednesday’s game against the Pistons, Tucker appeared on the court for 21 minutes. Tucker’s absence in the final quarter of Wednesday’s outing against the [Detroit Pistons](http://si.com/nba/pistons) made sense, considering the Sixers were well on their way to a blowout victory. Then against the Clippers, he checked in for just 20 minutes. After the game, Sixers head coach Doc Rivers addressed the absence of the veteran forward, mentioning that even though he intended to move away from Tucker with his rotations in the final quarter, there was a bigger reason for his absence. Pretty much the last few weeks, so I’ve been battling.” “A dead [right] hand.

76ers vs. Knicks: 3 Things That Stood Out on Christmas (Sports Illustrated)

Sunday marked the first time the Philadelphia 76ers played a Christmas Day matchup since their battle against the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2019-2020 ...

Harden’s been searching for the hot hand when the Sixers need a spark, and Niang was that guy in crunch time on Sunday. In the fourth quarter, the supporting cast stepped up and rewarded the big man with a victory. In the end, the Sixers went out on top, snagging a 119-112 win over the Knicks. 12 of those points came during the fourth quarter, where Niang helped the Sixers rally past the Knicks with a 24-16 run. The big man kept the Sixers in the game when things weren’t looking bright. Joel Embiid is back in the MVP conversation after a slow start to the year by his standards. With Doc Rivers going away from [PJ Tucker](https://www.si.com/search?query=PJ+Tucker) in the fourth quarter for the third-straight game, Niang collected 12 minutes of playing time down the stretch, and he earned every minute. Three quarters into the game, the Sixers had yet to take a lead. Early on in the fourth quarter, there was a momentum shift in the Sixers’ direction. Earlier in the season, the Knicks and the Sixers met for a November matchup at the Wells Fargo Center in South Philly. Once the Sixers got out in front, they never looked back. Led by Julius Randle and Jalen Brunson, the Knicks got a stellar effort from their stars, especially Randle, who scored 25 points in 19 minutes of action.

Sixers vs. Knicks takeaways: James Harden's development, team's ... (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

NEW YORK — James Harden has figured out when to pick his spots. The 76ers are not quite there yet, but they are starting to grow a sense of invincibility.

If I’m not aggressive and I’m not dominant to start the game, it just translates to the whole team. The Sixers trailed, 37-25, after the first 12 minutes because of their defensive shortcoming. And they were down 14 in the first quarter to the Knicks. “We just have to take it one game at a time. Some of the guys were talking about that in the locker room after the game. He said the team is heading in the right direction toward their destination: the NBA Finals. “We’ve got to change it, for the start,” Embiid said. “We try not to have that feeling, because obviously we can be beaten any night. He took a backseat when Joel Embiid was cooking in the third quarter. [Today] was one of those scenarios where he just let me go [and continue a two-man game with Niang]. But they need to erase their slow starts. But he took over after Embiid left late in the quarter.
