"His work ethic is crazy": Buddy Hield's shooting comes from living in ... (The Indianapolis Star)

Buddy Hield's work ethic has made him one of the Pacers' most consistent players and one of the most consistent shooters in the NBA.

"He's one of the best shooters in the league," Haliburton said. He's one of just four players over 30 on the roster and one of just two in the rotation along with backup point guard T.J. He's on track to hit more than 260 for the fifth straight season and a couple more of those could get him there. But his love for the game is deep and sincere, and it's obvious from his history that he cares. In Haliburton, he's playing with a point guard who knows his value and who knows how to set him up for shots. "But when you love the game so much that it's all you think about, just how I can get better each and every day, you just want success each and every day and you crave for it. Some times he can just be in the gym all day by himself, just shooting, running and grabbing the rebound and coming back, flipping it back and shooting again. Center Myles Turner is having the best season of his eight-year career, and he's a source of constant intrigue because he's in the final year of his contract, and the trajectory of the Pacers' season and near future hinges on whether Indiana decided to trade him, sign him to a contract extension or play his final year and let him walk. Haliburton played the hero again Tuesday with 12 fourth-quarter points to finish with 23 and finish the game out, but Hield was steady throughout the Pacers' peaks and valleys as a team. He's usually the last player to head back to the team hotel on the road for gameday shoot-arounds. With a combined 17 3-pointers in his last three games, he has rushed passed injured Warriors guard and all-time leading 3-point shooter Stephen Curry with 132 3-pointers to lead the NBA in total 3s this season. He had rushed back out on the floor and he grabbed the ball and he was going like this (turning his hands over it) and he was taking a couple of short shots.

Hield Shooting His Way Into the Record Books (Pacers.com)

No matter when you're reading this story, odds are Buddy Hield is in the gym right now getting up shots. That may be an exaggeration, but only slightly.

That durability is a testament both to Hield’s love of the game and also how he takes care of his body. One of those came last year when he was traded from Sacramento to Indiana on a game night for the Kings and held out of that night’s contest with the deal pending. He missed one game due to illness in February 2021 and two with an ankle injury in November 2017, but otherwise has been out there on the court every night since he was drafted in 2016. His teammates all rose from their seats in celebration, though Brissett and James Johnson gave him a thumbs down rating for the half-hearted slam. He should pass Glen Rice in the next week and Mike Miller in the next month. He's one of the best shooters in the league. But in truth, Hield’s shooting prowess is the product of countless hours of devotion to the game he loves so much. “He’s always confident, always ready, and that starts hours before the tip.” But taking inspiration from his childhood idol Kobe Bryant, Hield worked and worked until he earned an opportunity to come to the United States for prep school. 17 and is in his seventh NBA season – has seemingly done the opposite. “He lives for the game,” Carlisle said. “It gets to the point where my family gets mad at me that I overwork,” Hield said about his dedication to being in the gym.
