Orlando Magic vs. Oklahoma City Thunder (Jan. 4, 2022): 3 Things ... (Orlando Magic Daily)

The Orlando Magic get back to work after a four-day layoff as they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder in a battle between two rising young teams.

He is in line to be an All-Star this year, averaging 30.8 points per game and leading the league with 24.4 drives per game. That certainly leaves a lot to be desired for this team and makes it harder to climb uphill (especially since the Magic have noted struggles starting third quarters too). Gilgeous-Alexander is a constant assault on the rim and he makes his living scoring in the paint. The Oklahoma City Thunder? That will remain vital to the Magic as they hope to get back on the winning track, presumably with Carter back in the starting lineup as he works his way back from his injury amidst the team’s suspensions. Offense, notably, is the problem for the team as they often struggle to find their groove to start games. He had 30 points in a March 30 win over the Thunder last season. And they will have to break an Oklahoma City Thunder team that is feeling confident after scoring 150 points in Tuesday’s win over the Boston Celtics. Having some rest advantage may help — the Oklahoma City Thunder played Tuesday night (more on that in a moment). They do not exactly have a big presence on the inside. Carter scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the November loss to the Thunder earlier this year. The Oklahoma City Thunder, like the Orlando Magic, like to value size and positional versatility often featuring Josh Giddey at point guard or using Aleksej Pokusevski as a ball-handler (he is out Wednesday).

They had a great game last night in that they had seventy points in the paint along with making twenty threes. He deserves it.” – Anthony on Banchero being named Rookie of the Month Their bench plays a large role in their success, scoring a league-high 19.8 points off the pine per game. 5-18, matching the longest streak by a rookie in franchise history (O’Neal, Feb. Game Tonight: OKC Thunder vs Magic odds, game details ... (Thunderous Intentions)

The underdog OKC Thunder face the Magic riding the momentum wave of dropping 150 on the NBA's top club. TI breaks down the match and offers a prediction.

They’ll return home to host the Wizards and Mavericks this weekend. Regardless, after what we witnessed Tuesday, I have to pick the OKC Thunder to ride that momentum and come away with the victory. EST (6:00 CT) from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Per usual the game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Oklahoma or NBA League Pass. This club is gritty, physical and despite the recent losing streak cannot be underestimated. Albeit I’m not sure after the win Tuesday if this young roster needs any further clarification of their assets. The injury list for the Magic is insanely long. That’s because it would’ve offered the matchup of Paolo Banchero versus Chet Holmgren. Orlando enters this match with a new-found sense of confidence. That’s no shade on SGA who is an unselfish leader who doesn’t occupy the ball to the same degree as say Luka Doncic. - The OKC Thunder are 2-7 straight-up in their last 8 games played in January. - The OKC Thunder are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games when playing in Orlando.
