Twitter's confounding golden check system: Which beauty brands ... (Glossy)

Twitter's new gold checkmark for brands is meant to be a mark of legitimacy, but it's not without its share of chaos. Since Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter ...

Its U.S.-based acquired skin-care brand Drunk Elephant has a gold check for its Japan account and a blue check for its main account. Musk has said that Twitter has seen a “massive” drop in ad revenue, with a loss of [$4 million a day](https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/11/how-many-twitter-blue-subscribers-elon-musk-needs-to-make-up-losses.html) as major advertisers paused campaigns amid multiple controversies for the platform. For any questionable tweets by a blue-check brand, users are still able to check if an account is a subscriber account or a “legacy” blue-check. A gold check on a Japan account doesn’t seem to be related to its home base, however. As for the brands of Japan-based Shiseido, Shiseido Japan has a gold check, while its U.S., UK and Canada accounts have no check at all. The portfolios of the world’s largest beauty conglomerates include a mix of gold- and blue-checked accounts. With the introduction of the gold checkmark and a square profile picture for businesses on December 12, those that receive it will be visually differentiated from any imposter accounts that sneak their way past moderation. accounts: Benefit Cosmetics is gold on both its U.K. For L’Oréal Paris, its other country accounts — France and Brazil — are also gold. A separate Twitter [blog post](https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/profile-labels) describing the checkmarks in more detail still lists the official tag as a designation. But the gold does exist for some U.K. But brand size alone does not seem to be a factor: Household names such as Clinique and Revlon are still blue.

Policies Which Focus Solely on Profit Margins and Growth are ... (CT Examiner)

The natural world is predominantly cyclical. Carbon, phosphorus, nitrogen, oxygen and water circulate throughout the biosphere. Every ecology text makes ...

To bestow greater care on the commons, green taxes can be applied to wide varieties of resources and manufacturing processes. That blueprint has to be a restorative economy in which business is an ethical act guided by the same interconnected, symbiotic complexity and efficiency of natural systems. Pigou soundly concluded that producers, once forced to bear full costs of their abuses, would limit the brunt of those impacts to salvage bottom lines. That means exceeding sustainability by restoring degraded habitats and ecosystems to their fullest biological capacity and assuring everything we use “springs easily from the Earth and returns back to it.” Pigou that competitive marketplaces wouldn’t self-regulate to limit their harm or bear full costs of their production, including health and environmental-infrastructure damages. We flock to them in acquisitive love fests and display our “blessedness” in purchases, the more conspicuously the better. Aside from the obvious immorality of destroying a species, let alone causing a mass extinction, the loss of a species is the loss of a biological database and vast amount of information about the world: how it evolved, how it continues to adapt and develop; how it found its niche in the biosphere. Profit is excess that could have paid higher wages, lowered price for consumers or improved the quality of the product. In fact, the world uses over 6 billion pounds of pesticides each year, nearly all of which persist in land, food, organisms and water once they’re applied. In past columns I’ve referenced economist Joseph Shumpeter’s concept of “creative destruction” to describe how innovation continuously revolutionizes economic structures from within, incessantly destroying the old to replace it with new, sometimes less effective, merchandise. We’ve seen in 2022, as we did in the 70s, that insatiable demands for hydrocarbons not only double-glaze the troposphere but escalate prices. Linear systems, on the other hand, are takers and despoilers, notrecyclers, which by disassembling life’s building blocks make them reusable for others.

newsGP - Which baby sleep interventions are most effective? (RACGP)

There are many suggested interventions to help babies adopt good sleeping patterns, from sleep school and controlled crying to the more controversial melatonin ...

Many parents feel that they do not fit well with their emotional resources, belief systems, or life circumstances at that time. ‘GPs meeting parents of young infants may be asked about the safety and effectiveness of infant sleep interventions, and may thus wish to be informed of the most recent scientific evidence,’ she said. To help parents make informed decisions, GPs and other paediatric health providers can make parents aware of the range of evidence-based interventions available, according to Dr Kahn, as well as their benefits and costs – such as the higher difficulty yet greater helpfulness of the modified extinction approach – and the lack of evidence for any harmful consequences. The study looked at the effectiveness and safety of the three BSI approaches by comparing infant sleep, parent sleep, daytime sleepiness, depression, and parent–infant bonding between parents who had implemented these interventions and those who had not. The study used the real-world frequency, timing, duration, difficulty, and helpfulness of the following three BSI approaches used to promote sleep self-regulation for infants: [international study](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36375604/) published in the Journal of Pediatrics last year included details from more than 2000 parents of babies aged 3–18 months to examine the benefits and safety of behavioural sleep interventions (BSIs).

If you wish to take the matter further, you can escalate your claim to the Financial Ombudsman, pointing out that Nationwide has reimbursed you. Santander said it has detection processes in place to authenticate cheques and said that age alone is not a determiner of vulnerability under the FCA’s code. Nationwide agreed to reimburse my losses, but Santander said that I had authorised the transactions and was therefore liable for any financial loss.

Over 40% of travellers reported a problem with their flight in 2022, including long delays. Older and disabled passengers may have been hit the hardest.

Almost a third of these said they were delayed for more than two hours, meaning the airline is responsible for providing food and drink vouchers. How to tag images to find out which albums they're in within Photos ... (Macworld)

Apple lacks a particular smart album filter, but you can use a workaround. Mac 911. By Glenn Fleishman, Senior Contributor, Macworld ...

You have to navigate to an album to see all the media it contains, but this provides a clue. The unit in Photos is a photo or video, not an album, which is a collection of those things. Email yours to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]), including screen captures as appropriate and whether you want your full name used. You can simulate determining what albums media are in through the application of keywords, though it requires ongoing manual effort to maintain. But there’s an obvious omission that Apple hasn’t corrected several years after the introduction of the Photos app: you can’t determine in which albums a given photo or movie has been referenced. It’s powerful, as it lets you group and filter media in quite sophisticated ways.

Which of these trends will you miss in 2023? (INQUIRER.net)

As the trusted advisor and counselor to many of the world's most influential companies, family businesses, market leaders and conglomerates, I am like a doctor ...

How will it change the needs and preferences of our customers and clients? Because countries are worried that they could be cut off in the event of a war but also that they might be too dependent upon other countries if a similar unforeseen event like the global pandemic may strike out of the blue. In a world where we are moving away from an efficient global economy to one where resources are allocated in part due to ideological or political considerations, this drives up prices and increases inflationary tendencies. Its population projections could mean higher labor costs and that this may no longer become the “Chinese century.” India, whose population is expected to overtake China within this coming decade, could assume a much stronger position then. But it’s also due to the two superpowers China and the United States competing for global dominance. In the last decades, the allocation of resources has mostly been driven by economic considerations and profit. The more you become aware of trends, the more you can surf them like waves and use them for your business. In our analysis of trends, we found that despite all the uncertainties and major changes in these countries, the underlying trends would still support the rising consumption of their core products. Thus, we will certainly be witnessing more problems like trading restrictions in the future. If the pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine-North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) conflict have taught the world a lesson, it is above all how much more interconnected and truly globalized our world economies have become. Countries want to become more self-reliant and independent to avoid overdependence on others. One of these cause-effect relationships is that the companies that constantly obsess over trends have much less to worry about than the ones that do not.

Pedri also relished his new role. While it wasn't his most polished display with the final ball often lacking and failing to meet its target, the stats show that Pedri still put in a strong display on both sides of the ball which was vital for Barca sealing one of their biggest wins of a title-challenging season.

Not all of them come true, some have, but the plausible pairings are based on the artists’ similarities, their sonic evolution and/or past collaborations.

AGV or Conveyor — Which System Should You Choose ... (Robotics Tomorrow)

Material logistics plays a crucial role in manufacturing processes and warehouses, but should a company choose an autonomous guided vehicle (AGV) or a ...

For these reasons and more, they are increasingly looking to AGVs to harness the flexibility benefits these systems can bring. According to the experts, increasing numbers of warehouse and plant automation customers are investigating AGVs, and, as such, the mobile robotics market is experiencing a consistent upward trend. Krebs confirms, “The trend is increasingly moving towards automation and flexibility. The return on investment of conveyor or AGV solution will always depend on its usage. Therefore an AGV installation is largely about creating the site map it will use to get around and programming the vehicle's missions and different actions using configuration software. However, an AGV installation can be designed, set up, and commissioned quickly since the design of the vehicle itself is usually already complete. The main factors in the selection are flexibility, throughput performance, scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.” The experts don't think so, however AGV solutions are better able to adapt to spaces where there is other machinery already in place. "However, the quantity to be conveyed will determine whether an AGV will offer a viable solution. At the simplest level, a straightforward software change is all that is needed to adapt or add vehicle routes In line with shifting requirements. So, if materials need to be transported to and from fixed locations in high volumes, a conveyor is an ideal solution. “One of the main factors in choosing an AGV or conveyor is whether the customer wants to block the space with a conveyor or have the flexibility of an AGV," says Bernd Krebs, AGV Product Manager at Stöcklin Logistik.
