Pedro Pascal fans are drawing comparisons between the actor's lead characters in HBO's The Last of Us and Disney+'s The Mandalorian online.
Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who respectively portrayed Ellie and Joel in the video games, appear as Anna, Ellie's mother, and James, a senior member of a group of settlers, respectively. The series -- set five years after 1983's Return of the Jedi -- follows the lone bounty hunter as he goes on the run to protect Grogu, a force-sensitive child colloquially known as "Baby Yoda" by viewers. Although the shows have vastly different settings and characters, comparisons have been drawn between the two solely because Pascal plays an adoptive single father tasked with guarding a younger companion in both series.
The on-set dedication to the live-action adaptation has been quite remarkable.

Although The Last of Us is yet to be commissioned for season two, we can't imagine it not getting renewed. We should have daddy Joel around for a bit longer, well, probably until someone asks for a round of golf (if you know, you know). We got more of a backstory for the Miller family, with Dumbo's Nico Parker playing Joel's daughter, Sarah.
A new trailer for The Mandalorian Season 3 reveals Din and Grogu preparing for a fight, and a whole host of new Mandalorians.
The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Season 3 will also see the return of Din's former allies including Nevarro's magistrate Greef Karga (Carl Weathers). While Season 1 established the world of the story, and Season 2 tied it in to the larger Star Wars galaxy by bringing in characters like Bo-Katan, Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill/Max Llyod-Jones), it seems like Season 3 will hopefully be a marriage of the two ideas.
Mando and Grogu are ready for another adventure. Disney+ has released the official trailer for Season 3 of "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian."
Pascal returns as the galaxy’s notorious bounty hunter, with Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito and Katee Sackhoff also reprising their “Mandalorian” roles for the third season. The two were heading to planet Mandalore to restore Din Djarin’s honor. Baby Yoda, journeying across a galaxy far, far away, facing threats from Mandalorian home planet Mandalore and the bustling urban planet Coruscant.
It's been almost a year since we last saw Mando and Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett. "The Mandalorian" Season 3 trailer stokes excitement.
(Remarkably, “The Mandalorian” is the live-action continuation of storylines from the animated “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars: Rebels in its focus on this weapon.) Mando won the Darksaber in combat from Imperial baddie Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). But note: we said it was the last time we saw them on “The Mandalorian.” Whosoever has earned the right to wield the Darksaber has the right to rule the planet Mandalore. On “The Book of Boba Fett,” Mando got a new ship, a converted chrome Naboo starfighter (like those seen in 1999’s “The Phantom Menace”). It was an extremely moving moment, one of the defining moments of the entire Disney Star Wars era.

The first Mandalorian season 3 poster arrives reuniting Grogu and Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin ahead of the first trailer's arrival for the Disney+ show.
Though set up for her own spinoff in season 2, The Mandalorian season 3 will not see the return of Gina Carano as Cara Dune following a string of controversial political social media posts that led to Lucasfilm firing her. Whether the trailer drops during the latter half of the game, as was the case with the Marvel Cinematic Universe threequel's, or earlier is unknown. The new season is said to follow Din and Grogu heading to Mandalore in order to try and redeem himself for showing his face, while also seeking to bring an end to the civil war that's been going on. The series will feature the introduction of two Star Wars newcomers with Back to the Future vet Christopher Lloyd, whose role is being kept under wraps but described as a guest-starring appearance, and Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows in a similar new position. First premiering in late 2019, The Mandalorian has scored rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and helped launch a whole universe of projects for Disney+, including the direct spin-offs The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. The fight looks to be a heated one, however, as the titular bounty hunter's cape can be seen burning up as he carries his adopted son away from the explosive confrontation.
