NBA Odds: Heat-Pelicans prediction, pick, how to watch (ClutchPoints)

The Miami Heat (24-21) visit the New Orleans Pelicans (26-18) on Wednesday. Action tips off at 8:00 p.m. ET. Below we continue our NBA odds series with a ...

While the Pelicans have thrived without the services of their two All-Stars, it will be an uphill battle against the Heat, a team capable of shutting down offenses and making explosive offensive barrages. The presence of Ingram and Williamson will surely be missed, so expect the Heat to make a bounce-back win on the road. The Pelicans are also making their presence known on the defensive end. Valanciunas, Larry Nance Jr., and Willy Hernangomez are capable of securing the glass. The Heat play at the third-slowest pace in the NBA (97.26 possessions per game), but still have three players capable of making 20 points per night. Devonte’ Graham, Dyson Daniels, and Jaxson Hayes have also shined behind the starters. In its previous five games, the Pels won against the Pistons and Wizards but suffered losses to the Celtics, Mavericks, and Cavaliers. Despite this, Willie Green’s Pelicans have shown their resolve on the hardwood. Despite this roster reduction, Erik Spoelstra still gives minutes to Victor Oladipo, Gabe Vincent, Haywood Highsmith, and Max Strus, who have emerged as reliable 3-and-D players for the Heat. Miami won the preseason matchup, 120-103, and also dominated the two games held last 2021-2022 season. Miami has won six of their last 10 games and sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference. The Pelicans are hopeful that their nine-game road trip to start 2023 will end with a winning record.

NBA picks: Heat vs. Pelicans prediction, odds, over/under, spread ... (DraftKings Nation)

We go over some of the best betting options for Wednesday's matchup between the Miami Heat and New Orleans Pelicans.

Miami is holding opponents to just 108.8 points per game, the second-best defensive average in the league. New Orleans (26-18) also dropped its matchup on Monday, falling to the Cavaliers in a 113-103 loss. If they don’t squander a late lead like on Monday, they should be able to at least keep things close if not pull out the outright win. The Pelicans have done well as a home underdog this year, posting a 4-2 record against the spread in that category. Meanwhile, Zion Williamson is once again out for the Pelicans as he still deals with hamstring injury. The Heat were outpaced from the opening tip as they trailed for the entire contest and were down by 26 at one point in the afternoon.

Heat vs. Pelicans: Knife Fight In NOLA (Sports Illustrated)

The New Orleans Pelicans could get some reinforcements back following a five-game road trip.

Naji Marshall starting across from Jimmy Butler is the closest the NBA will come to a knife fight. If Lowry is a late scratch, McCollum will get to go against the defensive-minded Gabe Vincent. The 8th overall pick will get another shot to slow down a star going against Tyler Herro. The two vets have been leading the way for Willie Green's young squad but a return home is another chance for Naji Marshall, Dyson Daniels, and Trey Murphy III to step up with their inclusion to the starting five. They'll be looking to make a jump up the rankings with a win over the short-handed Pelicans. The [Pelicans](https://www.si.com/nba/team/new-orleans-pelicans) have won only two games in the last 12 days so a home win would go a long way to keeping pace in the race for the Western Conference's top spot. He should be able to focus on his shot more since Vincent is less of a shooting threat. Trey Murphy III and Jonas Valanciunas should not get stretched thin by Caleb Martin and Bam Adebayo. Daniels is getting praise for some beyond-his-years defense at a rookie. Liddell (right knee ACL injury recovery), and [Zion](https://www.si.com/nba/pelicans) Williamson (right hamstring strain) are also going to miss this game against Miami. Miami is coming off a 121-113 road loss to the Atlanta Hawks Monday, which snapped a three-game win streak. Jimmy Butler is starting to show signs of slowing down but this Pat Riley-run franchise still believes an NBA Finals run is possible.

Rod Walker: Pelicans must avoid efforts like one vs. Heat to stay ... (NOLA.com)

The feisty, gritty New Orleans Pelicans whom folks have grown accustomed to watching this season never showed up to the Smoothie King Center on Wednesday ...

It’s an important part of the schedule for a team that desperately wants to stay in the top four in the jumbled Western Conference standings. The Detroit Pistons have the second-worst record in the league. But until then, it’s up to everyone else to keep the ship afloat during a pivotal stretch beginning Friday in Orlando against the Magic. The Houston Rockets have the worst record in the league. That's a big reason the Pelicans are in the tailspin they are in right now. They are behind the Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies and the surprising Sacramento Kings, who beat the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday to leapfrog the Pelicans.
