QUOTE TO NOTE: “It’s always so important to be able to give back, to be able to share, to be able to care, and to be able to show how much the community impacts us and how much we want to be able to impact the community. It’s about being able to spread and share joy, love, and connect with as many people as possible to bring as many people together as possible.”- Mosley on the Magic’s week of service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. So, we’re going to have to be locked in, move the ball (and) not catch and hold.” And then, (Jonas) Valanciunas does such a great job around the rim, finishing around the basket.” Orlando will need every bit of support from their home fans as it gets set to host a New Orleans team that ranks among the best in the West. “I think it’s so important that we get to be back around our families and get around the home crowd again.”
The Orlando Magic return home to face a struggling New Orleans Pelicans team as they look to build off a solid but frustrating West Coast trip.
7 in the midst of a five-game homestand, they are 6-3 with a +2.5 net rating (117.0/114.5). 30, the Magic are 6-5 with a +0.1 net rating (114.4/114.3 split). Now Williamson is out for the foreseeable future with a right hamstring strain. As much as the Magic want to be a defensive team, they are pretty consistent on that end both at and away from the Amway Center. At home this season, Orlando has a -1.3 net rating (113.9/115.3) at the Amway Center this season. As obsessed as everyone can get with the team’s 3-point shooting, free throws are a bigger factor in their offensive success. In their last 10 games though, there has been something of a slowdown at the line. [When Orlando got blown out in Sacramento](https://orlandomagicdaily.com/2023/01/10/orlando-magic-need-aggressors-embrace-identity/), the team bounced back immediately with an [impressive performance the next night against the Portland Trail Blazers](https://orlandomagicdaily.com/2023/01/11/orlando-magic-never-trail-in-close-win-against-portland-trail-blazers/). How did the team stay in the game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday? The Pelicans are 3-7 in their last 10. The same could be said for their [second-half response in Denver](https://orlandomagicdaily.com/2023/01/16/orlando-magic-comeback-falls-short-to-denver-nuggets-after-nikola-jokic-game-winner/) in how they erased a 15-point deficit on the last night of the longest road trip of the season. The New Orleans Pelicans are dealing with their own adversity right now.

Orlando: Franz Wagner (ankle) is questionable. New Orleans: Herb Jones (back) and Nnaji Marshall (toe) are questionable. The team went 2-3 on that trek and will have six games over the next nine days, including two back-to-back sets.
The New Orleans Pelicans are back on the road this week. First stop, Orlando.
The Magic might be without Franz Wagner (ankle) but Paolo Banchero has been giving good teams real problems in what seems to be a Rookie of the Year campaign. The Pelicans have lost two straight games and five of their last seven, including a 124-98 blowout loss at home on Wednesday to the Miami Heat, who New Orleans will visit on Sunday. CJ McCollum, Jonas Valanciunas, and Trey Murphy III have been leading the Pelicans while the All-Stars recover from injuries. However, the Pelicans have won the past two meetings. Naji Marshall (toe) is also on the injury report, listed as questionable. Willie Green's squad will trek through Florida this week and the first stop is the Amway Center, home of the Orlando Magic (16-28).
The New Orleans Pelicans visit the Orlando Magic on Friday night. We continue our NBA odds series with a Pelicans-Magic prediction, pick, and how to watch.
For as good as their defense looked on the road trip, one of the most encouraging takeaways from the expedition was the re-emergence of Markelle Fultz. Given their strong recent play and New Orleans’ injuries, I’ll ride with the home underdogs tonight. Although forward Franz Wagner is questionable, Orlando backers should feel confident in Fultz and Rookie of the Year favorite Paolo Banchero to carry the load tonight. Perhaps their biggest strength on offense is their ability to get to the basket as they rank third in made free throws (20.2 FTM) and fourth in free throws attempted (26.0 FTA). The Magic went 2-3 across the trip and picked up wins in Golden State and Portland. For the season, they rank ninth in scoring (116.6 PPG) and assists (26.0 APG). Orlando, too, has lost three of their last four games and sits in 13th place in the Eastern Conference. New Orleans has lost three of their last four games but remains in fourth place in the Western Conference. CJ has been the most consistent player for New Orleans all season long as he is the lone member of their “Big Three” who has remained healthy. After averaging 27.4 PPG in his five previous games, look for CJ to have a strong night against the league’s 17th-ranked defense. The Magic covered 56% of their games while 52% went over. The Pelicans covered 49% of their games while 58% went over the projected point total.
