Jordan Poole atones for mistake, Steph Curry's mouthpiece throw (NBC Sports Bay Area)

In the end, Jordan Poole, the same teammate who made Curry mad made him glad. All was forgiven.

The Grizzlies responded with Ja Morant driving into the lane and feeding Brandon Clarke for a game-tying lob with 6.3 seconds left. “Not just because it is Memphis and all of the narratives there, but it is just how we’re playing. That brightened the spotlight on Klay Thompson and Poole. Poole got under Curry’s skin – and that of his coaches and teammates – by launching a 29-foot shot with 13 seconds on the shot clock and 1:14 left in the game. “Obviously, he's our leader and we would love to have him in the game with us for the last 3, but we just found a way to grit it out and get a big win against a really good team. A lot of celebrations in the tunnel,” Curry said. Thompson buried a triple with 14.6 seconds to go to give Golden State a two-point lead. Curry lasted only six minutes before being tossed, but he scored 10 points without missing a shot and was plus-8. Truth told, JP is the 23-year-old heir apparent to Steph, who is 34 and, all things considered, the greatest Warrior of all-time. As they did in the fourth quarter. Poole was grinning in return. He slapped palms with security chief Yusef Wright and then teammate/friend Andre Iguodala.

Next, [Anthony Lamb](https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/4066790/anthony-lamb) rotated to the left. "Not just because it was Memphis and all of the narratives there, but it is just how we are playing. But against the Grizzlies -- especially after Curry was ejected -- the Warriors managed to execute. It was the first go-ahead field goal in the final 10 seconds of a game in Poole's career. [Donte DiVincenzo](https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3934673/donte-divincenzo) held the ball looking for somewhere to inbound it. We're getting a lot of experience with close games in the regular season, and that will definitely help us down the road." [Klay Thompson](https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/6475/klay-thompson) and Poole chirped at Memphis players as they walked toward the tunnel. I reacted in a way that put myself out of the game and put the team in a tough place," Curry said after the Warriors pulled off a wild But near the end of the second quarter, the tide started to turn for both teams. The Warriors committed 11 fouls and had 14 turnovers in the first half -- the most turnovers they've committed in any half at home this season. In 2017, he was ejected after throwing his mouthguard at a referee in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies. I think [the Grizzlies] bring out a different competitive side in us and we do the same for them.

Defending Jordan Poole: The shot being blamed for Stephen Curry's ... (CBSSports.com)

Poole didn't need to redeem himself, but he did by delivering the game-winner.

With a shortened shot clock, by letting Memphis reset its defense the Warriors would've been making life harder on themselves to create the same look that Poole had right in front of him. But was it the best decision? But the Warriors, with just a one-bucket lead and still time for at least two more Grizzlies possessions, needed to score on this trip more than they needed to milk a few more seconds. So even if Golden State had milked the shot clock down to the last second, which likely would've resulted in a far worse shot than the one Poole took, Memphis still would've gotten the ball back with over a minute to play. Before the shot, you can see that Curry was clapping for Poole to give him the ball. After attempting a somewhat ill-advised 3-pointer that irked [Stephen Curry](/nba/players/1685204/stephen-curry/) to the point the Warriors star hurled his mouthpiece into the stands, which led to his being ejected, Poole redeemed himself by producing the game-winning layup off a baseline out-of-bounds play as Golden State escaped with a 122-120 victory.

We needed that one, so there’s a lot of sense of urgency for sure, and I kind of let my emotions get in the way of it.” So I reacted in a way that obviously put myself out of the game, put the team in a tough place. “It was a crucial time in the game and the way that our season is going, there’s questions about the heightened sense of urgency of how every detail matters,” said Stephen Curry on his ejection after the Warriors win.

“It was a much-needed win, back to .500, in the driver’s seat again. Jonathan Kuminga drilled a corner 3 in the second quarter and turned to stare down the Memphis bench. “I don’t think the history’s very deep, but it felt great” to win, said Thompson, who finished with 24 points. The following postseason, the Warriors defeated the Grizzlies in a fiery Western Conference semifinals that featured ample drama — from hard fouls and a broken elbow to plenty of trash talk and intense competition. It was enough by the official’s standards to warrant a technical foul and game ejection. “To win the game after the Steph ejection was great,” coach Steve Kerr said.

The ejection vs. the Grizzlies was just the third of Curry's career.

Poole shared his annoyance with the decision to eject Curry after the game. Fortunately for the Warriors, Curry's absence didn't cost them the game. The ejection was the third of Curry's career, and the other two were memorable for similar reasons. The officials immediately ejected him from the game. With Curry calling for the ball, Poole threw up a quick 3-pointer. [Klay Thompson](/nba/players/1647559/klay-thompson/) missed a mid-range jumper that would've doubled the Warriors' lead.

After missing more than a month, Anthony Davis starred off the bench, finishing with 21 points (7-15 FG), 12 rebounds, and four blocks in 26 minutes. The lights out performance has historical significance as well with Lillard now one of five players ever with at least four regular season games scoring 60+; the other four are Wilt Chamberlain (32 games), Kobe Bryant (6), James Harden (4), and Michael Jordan (4). In his first game active since being traded from the Lakers, new Wizards guard Kendrick Nunn tallied 12 points (5-9 FG), four rebounds, and four assists in 22 minutes; each mark is roughly double his season average with LA. Simmons played just three minutes in the fourth following a brilliant third quarter (10 points and three assists). Just like in Adam Sandler’s Hustle, Anthony Edwards found himself playing spoiler and he did so efficiently, posting 37 points (12-25 FG) along with six rebounds and five assists. Steph Curry was ejected for throwing his mouth guard with 1:14 remaining, but the Warriors were already up 116-114 and only trailed for 12 of the final 74 seconds.

Given the totality of the Kyrie Irving experience, as well as what other players have accomplished, there were better options for the starting five. Luka seemed like a lock for one of the starting positions. In the current setup though, Embiid seems to have a stronger case to start than Giannis. Morant and SGA will have their chances to rack up starting spots over the course of their careers. In the East, Embiid has to be wondering why he’s been left out of the starting five. He's clearly mad at his own teammate's horrific shot selection in a key moment during the game and his frustration boiled over. Up by two with one minute and 14 seconds remaining, the Warriors had the ball with a chance to run some precious time off the clock, only for Jordan Poole to take a terrible shot from beyond the three-point line that sent Curry into a fit of rage. Curry broke down the whole situation afterward, clarifying the mouthguard never went into the stands. The guy chews on that thing and dangles it around his mouth like a man with slicked-back hair and a leather jacket does with a toothpick. That was until Wednesday night, when Curry's middling Warriors found themselves in a heated battle with one of the top team's in the West, the Memphis Grizzlies. But Curry wasn't truly back until he whipped his mouthpiece in disgust, many were saying (no one was saying this).

Warriors go hyper small, overcome Steph Curry ejection, escape ... (The Athletic)

One of the most anticipated games on the NBA slate did not fail to deliver. Here's how it all went down.

With the survival over Memphis, they’ve crawled back to 24-24, snapping a four-game home losing streak and climbing into a tie with the “I mean, started (going small) in the 2015 championship, so I’m all for it,” Klay Thompson said. Wiseman is the fourth. [Donte DiVincenzo](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/donte-divincenzo-5yeG2wUB9RTaEEGd/) found the cutting Poole. He has been providing rim pressure on the offensive end and ball pressure on the defensive end, emerging into a bigger part of the team’s present. Memphis had control of the game the majority of the second half. [Klay Thompson](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/klay-thompson-JyZHl24VVa8twrMw/) and [Anthony Lamb](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/anthony-lamb-B2uSjdPjkmH1V3fk/) whipped around and off a Draymond Green screen, drawing all of Memphis’ defensive attention one direction and leaving an open lane for [Jordan Poole](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/jordan-poole-OKSId48WraP8pRNl/) to cut. The late-game win had a relaxing impact in both the smaller and bigger picture. [Ziaire Williams](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/ziaire-williams-BMEIAOAaFPVB3zR8/) was top-locking him, leaving the lane free. The rebound was kicked out to Poole, who had the choice to either hold it and milk some clock before running a set or pass it over to the open Curry on his left and trust his judgement. Green dialed it up on the fly with 2.6 seconds left in a tie game with the ball coming in from the baseline. “In a situation like that, if you jumble everything up, they’re just going to grab a hold and no one is calling it at that point in the game.”

Warriors' Steph Curry named NBA All-Star Game starter (Marin Independent Journal)

This is the ninth time in his 14-year career he's been named a starter for the All-Star Game.

Their All-Star fate will be in the hands of the NBA head coaches, who will pick the reserves. The two captains, James and Antetokounmpo, will take their turns picking their teams from a pool of players voted as starters and reserves. Fans will have to wait and see who Curry will end up playing with this year as the league decided to move the draft and host it before the game on Feb. Fan vote accounts for half of the final vote for All-Star starters. This will be Curry’s ninth All-Star start in his 14-year NBA career, marking the most in Warriors’ history. Curry has been part of All-Star Weekend festivities in 10 of his previous 11 seasons, winning the 3-point contest two of his seven tries.
