Chicago was up 62-46 at the end of the half but couldn't hold on to the lead. Watch the contest and check back on CBS Sports for all the details. Charlotte was down 98-77 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. Meanwhile, Chicago was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 116-110 to the Indiana Pacers. Allowing an average of 119.08 points per game, Charlotte has been asleep on the defensive side of the ball and will need to wake up before the matchup. It's hard to picture a worse defeat than the 128-97 bruising that the Hornets suffered against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. The Charlotte Hornets will be returning home after a four-game road trip.

It feels like Charlotte is beginning to let go of the rope with the trade deadline around the corner. The Hornets are riddled with injuries and have the third-worst record in the NBA. Chicago isn’t an especially tough matchup for many teams, but Charlotte won’t stand much of a chance with how things are going right now.

The Charlotte Hornets (13-36) will host the Chicago Bulls at the Spectrum Center in Thursday's schedule of NBA games. Check out our NBA odds series and read ...

The Bulls have kept their games close in their last 10 matches. DeRozan and LaVine are too much to handle for the struggling Hornets. The Bulls are also menacing in the defensive end. The redeeming factor for the Hornets here is to continue posting up numbers on rebounding and steals. The Bulls’ 81.5 shooting clip in the free-throw line and 36.8 three-point shooting percentage are all top 10 numbers, so the Bulls should take advantage of these strengths. This season, the NBA saw the Hornets pulling off wins against the Hawks, Sixers, Lakers, Wizards, and Bucks. The last two games for the Hornets were disastrous double-digit massacres. The Hornets have just found three victories at the turn of the year. Charlotte’s activity on the offense has been made possible by their creative point guard in LaMelo Ball. The Chicago Bulls are 6-5 for 2023 and have made two separate three-game win streaks for the new year. Despite this, Billy Donovan still made things happen for Windy City throughout the season. Their last match-up was a second-half collapse versus the Indiana Pacers.

It was a rough showing for the bench even with Billy Donovan only giving real minutes to three of his reserves who combined for just 11 points, and were outscored by the combined Hornets bench by ten. Things looked to be turning around with the three game winning streak and the trip to France. DeMar DeRozan was the leading scorer with 28 points but struggled overall from the floor, going just nine of 21 from the field. Charlotte was led by the 28 points of Terry Rozier, while Mason Plumlee and LaMelo Ball contributed with double doubles. They gave the ball away 13 times and didn’t have much ball movement either with only 16 assists on 37 made baskets. LaMelo Ball returned from injury and Hornets were as close to whole as they've been in victory vs. the Chicago Bulls at Spectrum Center on Thursday.

“It’s a great feeling being able to touch the rock.” Knowing the matchup between Ball and his older brother, Lonzo, wasn’t going to materialize because the the Bulls guard is out working back from left knee surgery didn’t help matters. Ball’s impact is crystal clear and it’s why the Hornets need to have him healthy to be successful. 23 in Los Angeles against the Lakers, and also came up with an emphatic rejection of Chicago’s noted leaper Zach LaVine on a fastbreak finger roll. But obviously, we don’t dwell on the past, we move forward. “He puts so much pressure on the defense every time he touches the ball. He did other things to compensate for the struggles from the floor, compiling 11 rebounds and eight assists. Hayward tossed in the most points he’s had since netting 15 on Dec. That’s why they were thrilled to actually trot out an intact starting unit for just the eighth occasion all season. Rozier couldn’t help but deliver a one-liner about Plumlee’s form and crack a few jokes at the big man’s expense, given there hadn’t been many nights like this during the past three plus-months. Their reappearances provided an obvious boost and injected the Hornets (14-36) with some much-needed depth. (Gordon) and Melo, just having everybody, it’s a big lift.
