Dave Bautista Talks 'Knock at the Cabin,' the End of the World Genre ... (Collider.com)

From the far reaches of the galaxy as Drax in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, to Oscar-winning Dune, to Rian Johnson's sensational sequel, ...

I think he's so talented that you can just break away from it and just take a second, and just have a fun conversation and just talk about nothing. I think it's because the role, it was a different type of role, it was me playing a character. I think [Denis Villeneuve] is amazing, and I definitely have to ask you what it was like working on the sequel. Listen, while I was really looking forward to this movie, I will admit my most anticipated film of the year is a sequel to Dune. This is the apocalypse, this is the end of the world. I mean, there was so much more pressure because there was not only that, but Night was also shooting with one camera and it was on film, and nobody wants to burn up film. I fought for that role because I knew it was a good role, and it would get me somewhere, and it would get me to here. But also, I always associate myself with the people that I'm working with, and that was such a strong cast, like such a well-respected cast. I was watching myself and – as I typically do – just cringing, and that moment just gave me a sigh of relief and a good laugh, like, “There it is, that's his cameo.” At the time I think a lot of people took it wrong, but I needed to do it to get people to see me differently. Because we didn't see it, we knew when it was going to be in the film, but until the film was put together we didn't see it. I love that he always pops up in his films because people, they know that and they look for it, and they're excited about it, and so yeah, I was happy.

Why Dave Bautista Struggled While Filming Shyamalan's Knock At ... (Screen Rant)

Dave Bautista explains why his role as Leonard in M. Night Shyamalan's new thriller, Knock at the Cabin, was a struggle for him as an actor.

Although to Groff and Aldridge's characters Leonard is a dangerous madman holding them hostage, Leonard is very much the hero of his own story. One of the key things that actors, screenwriters, and directors touch on when describing what makes an effective antagonist is that the villain doesn't actually believe he or she is a villain. [CinemaBlend](https://www.cinemablend.com/interviews/dave-bautista-reveals-what-he-struggled-with-the-most-while-filming-knock-at-the-cabin), Bautista explains that he faced a particular struggle while [filming Knock at the Cabin](https://screenrant.com/knock-at-the-cabin-reactions-reviews/). He’s in charge of making sure that this goes right, that these people really believe that he’s there out of sincerity, and he really means what he says, he believes in what he says, so he can’t fall apart. Instead of letting Leonard's emotions come to the surface, the enormity of the character's task – preventing the end of the world – meant that he has to constantly try to maintain an aura of control even when things are falling apart. The actor reveals that his major challenge stemmed from Leonard's own headspace in terms of how he carries himself and how he interacts with his companions.

Dave Bautista: "I never wanted to play over-the-top action characters" (NME.com)

Who's got the coolest career in Hollywood right now? Easy. It's Dave Bautista. The former WWE wrestler, 54, has killed us as Guardians Of The Galaxy's Drax, ...

But the pacing was slower, and it just picks up so much more in the second film.” And just so cutthroat and political. I need to move on and there’s other things I want to accomplish with my career.” But I called him and immediately said, ‘What do I have to do to get this role? And it’s weird for this role saying that, because I’m probably bigger in this role than I have ever been in any other role. It was so hard not to talk to him about Harry Potter! I had to keep in mind that he’s probably so tired of people asking him about Harry Potter. They came my way and I took them and I did the best I could.” I was having anxiety because I wanted to pick up the phone and talk to him so bad. So I look for ways to kind of strip away my physicality. I want you for this role.’ And I called my agents and said, ‘I don’t care what it takes, get this deal done. Other than these kind of action characters that are just so over the top and so larger-than-life.

The restraint Leonard shows in the film in the face of the overbearing weight of the circumstances is also portrayed brilliantly by Bautista. In a delicate balance of his physicality and line delivery, Bautista makes Leonard a tragic figure in the film that viewers empathize with but are nonetheless terrified of. And it's the same with this with Drax. That's kind of what we all signed up for, to do a trilogy, and I think this is going to be the last version of our Guardians of the Galaxy. Similar to the death of Tony Stark and the end of Steve Rogers’ story in Avengers: Endgame, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is set to deliver the final act for several members of the ragtag group of heroes. I ended it on a storybook note, and I would never go back and tarnish that. This looks to continue with Ant-Man and the Wasp and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 this year. And after reading the script and after being on this film and filming it, it's just so much better.
