Stream It Or Skip It: 'Viking Wolf on Netflix, A Moody Norwegian ... (Decider)

In Viking Wolf, a new in town teenager gets much too close to who or what is doing a bunch of murdering, leaving her cop mom with a full plate of worry and ...

But it does develop an ominous mood that hangs over the proceedings from the word go, and it utilizes the mystery and threat of the surrounding forest well. And there are more than a few references in this Wolf to the 1981 horror comedy classic [American Werewolf in London](https://decider.com/movie/an-american-werewolf-in-london/), especially in its debt to Rick Baker’s transformational makeup effects. With the help of William (Arthur Hakalahti), a veterinarian whose modern methods clash with the elements of myth and folklore at work in the killings, Liv has to figure out the truth while also trying to reconnect with and ultimately protect her oldest daughter from what’s alive and hungry in their new town. And when the new police chief in town discovers a link between the violence and her daughter’s increasingly odd behavior, it’s time to bring in some reinforcements in the hope of solving the case. There’s local prejudice against the techniques of modern policing to navigate, too, as well as a healthy allowance for folklore and myth that as an outsider she neither fully understands nor wishes to indulge. The Gist: A veteran big city police officer moves with her children to a small town after a family tragedy, marries an easygoing local and becomes the chief of police just as a spate of grisly murders strikes fear into the area.

Viking Wolf: Her Bark is Worse than Her Bite! - Comic Watch (Comic Watch)

It is a werewolf film and it does involve a Viking back story but that is where the originality ends and the predictable plot and mundane storyline kicks in ...

The unique origin of the werewolf in this film is intriguing and had a lot of potential, but besides the beginning and one scene where it is discussed, it really doesn’t play much into the plot. Thale is the standard disgruntled teen girl who has family issues, but since we never really find out what happened or why she hates her mother so much, it becomes harder and harder to sympathize with her. The film has a great style with some wonderful imagery and visuals, unfortunately this is mixed in with some uneven storytelling, slow pacing and a predictable plot. The scenery and location of this movie are beautiful and some of the camera work is quite good. It is a werewolf film, and it does involve a Viking back story, but that is where the originality ends and the predictable plot and mundane storyline kicks in. As the movie progresses, Liv is in charge of the hunt for whatever did this and her life becomes more and more frazzled as more attacks happen.

Where was Viking Wolf filmed? (Ready Steady Cut)

I could be wrong, but as far as I can tell, Viking Wolf is the first Norwegian werewolf film ever. There have been other horror movies from Norway, namely ...

The city of Notodden features heavily in the filming locations of Viking Wolf and is a wonderful setting for scenes in the film. You should be able to spot Sylling Village for some of the rural scenes. Viken was formed in 2020 by merging the counties of Akershus, Ostfold, and Buskerud. Built on the southern coast of Norway, location vultures will recognize some locales here also being used in the reversible brain-numbing Christopher Nolan film The Heddal Stave Church is notable in the film, and its eloquent thirteenth-century design, adds gravitas to the scenes. While there, Thale sees a horrific attack on another young girl by a monstrous force, and as a witness, she is key to solving the mystery.

Viking Wolf review: Predictable and underwhelming (The Envoy Web)

Viking Wolf (Vikingulven) is a nordic supernatural thriller focusing on Thale Berg. After moving to a small town, the 17-year-old witnesses a vicious ...

The effects are not up to the mark and take you out of the scene. Thale turning into that fearsome beast is visually stunning and handled with care. She plays into her character’s strengths and leads the narrative into interesting territories as the Police Chief. The approach might be met with polarising views, but is fresh regardless. The Vikings didn’t realize that they had unleashed a hound of hell and paid the price. While plundering an abbey there, they discovered a secret room and broke into it despite pleas from the monks.

The vet recognizes this and asks if they may use a tranquilizer to put it to sleep for a time while they decide what to do. The actors put on a fantastic show, but there are times when they are just meandering. The film’s conclusion shows Thale’s mother Liv attempting to murder her daughter Jenny with a gun. The search party member is murdered, and they discover that a bus has capsized due to an animal attack. While her mum who is the police tries to hunt the werewolf the young girl starts to show..wolfy tendencies. When the wolf is scared, it attacks everyone in its vicinity. Liv and the vet make their way to the man who first warned her about the werewolf. Jonas is also present, and he is shaking somewhere in the distance. Officer Liv is the only one surviving to tell the tale because someone had previously given her a silver bullet, which she used to dispatch the beast. In the present, we see Thale, a young girl, eating popcorn with her sister and father when she is summoned to the bay by her pals. In jealousy, she asks him if they can speak privately elsewhere, and they go, leaving Thale alone to speak to the other people there. There’s a party going on in the neighborhood, and folks are getting light.

Wolf Hollow (2023) Review - Voices From The Balcony (Voices From The Balcony)

There are also several other familiar faces scattered among the cast including Hans Hernke ( [Bermuda Island](https://www.voicesfromthebalcony.com/2023/01/08/bermuda-island-2023-review/), Virus of the Undead: Pandemic Outbreak) and Hannah Fierman ( [Dead by Midnight (Y2Kill)](https://www.voicesfromthebalcony.com/2022/04/27/dead-by-midnight-y2kill-2022-review/), [Haven’s End](https://www.voicesfromthebalcony.com/2020/11/20/havens-end-2019-review/)). Wolf Hollow is easily the bloodiest werewolf film I’ve seen since Bonehill Road and one of the most enjoyable. Not only do we get the main story involving the film crew, but there’s also an Assault on Precinct 13 type situation at the local police station and assorted other bits of mayhem to keep Wolf Hollow’s pace from slowing down. It’s a beautiful piece of rural property owned by the family of her new assistant, Ray Neuri (Noah Welter, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, An American Pickle). After sitting through the less-than-satisfying Viking Wolf I wanted a lycanthropic film with a bit more bite to it.

Moreover, the horror flick features a cast of Norwegian actors Sjur Vatne Brean as Jonas Larson, Vidar Magnussen as Arthur Berg, Elli Rhiannon Müller Osborne, ...

Moreover, this is why many believe the film falls short in its exploration of the werewolf as a pop culture icon and instead opts for cheap thrills and jump scares. Some users found the film to be too formulaic, relying too heavily on the conventions of the horror genre and not offering anything truly new or innovative. The film is directed by Stig Svendsen with a screenplay from him and Espen Aukan, and has a total runtime of one hour and thirty-eight minutes.
