Regardless of who defends who, the Knicks will need yet another masterclass from Jalen Brunson in order to compete in today’s game. Two players that were deserving of All-Star selections this season but ended up getting snubbed, this will be a fun matchup to watch, especially if Joel Embiid misses this game. After leading by three with just seconds left in regulation, the Knicks made a great contest against Paul George, who heaved from three to try and equalize the game. In overtime, the Knicks allowed the Clippers to score 19 points, attempting 18 free throws in the span of 5 minutes which helped seal the deal. There has been discussion of what the Knicks could be planning in lieu of the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday, February 9th, but nothing gaining much traction around a center. The defense has been a frequent topic for the team, especially since Mitchell Robinson left the lineup and there is significant uncertainty as to when he will return. Similar to the Clippers with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, the dynamic duo of James Harden and Joel Embiid among other offensive threats on the team are extremely adept at getting calls and heading to the free-throw line. It’ll be interesting to see who the Knicks choose to start at center in this game. Unfortunately, a last-second Nicolas Batum three forced overtime and the Clips ran away with the game in the final five minutes of play. I believe that Isaiah Hartenstein will get the start in this game. While the Knicks may have come back from down big against the Clippers in their last game, they made it tough on themselves by getting into that hole early on.
