Jake Kemp, the co-host of The Hang Zone on 1310 The Ticket, who also writes about the Mavs for D Magazine, made it clear that he doesn't want to "alibi for a guy who has said many, many dumb things." Kyrie Irving shines in Mavs debut, is 'glad' Kevin Durant is on brink of ... (NBA.com)

The newly acquired All-Star started out strong in his first Mavs game, but also had thoughts on his former teammate's move from Brooklyn.

He tries to play the game the right way by moving and setting screens for his teammates,” Kidd said. “It was pretty easy to tell what he was going after when I was playing with him. “The beauty of Kai is he is all about winning. Irving said he followed the same approach when he played with other star players, including Durant and LeBron James. “I don’t want to force anything on him or do anything that is out of my norm.” He played that tonight with his teammates.” Some of Irving’s teammates said they felt the same way after he told them during Tuesday’s practice and Wednesday’s shootaround “to have fun.” The rest of the Mavericks starting lineup also scored in double figures, including Tim Hardaway Jr. Irving experienced what he called a “long 96 hours” that included little sleep and lots of packing after the Brooklyn Nets “It felt like he’s been here for a while.” “He works on his craft. “I’m just praying for his happiness and praying for his well-being. We’ve just tried to understand each other a lot and grow as human beings and grow as brothers.”

Luka Doncic cheers as 'amazing' Kyrie Irving shines on Dallas ... (The Guardian)

Kyrie Irving came out charging in his Dallas debut, keying a big run to open the game and sparking his new teammates in front of a cheering Luka Doncic.

We just tried to understand each other a lot better and grow as human beings, grow as brothers. Irving had four rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes of what amounted to a dress rehearsal before Doncic returns to give the Mavs a powerhouse backcourt. There was still a level of uncertainty, but we just cared about seeing each other be places that we can thrive – whether that be together, whether that be apart. He was part of a 13-0 spurt early in the game, scoring eight points on a jumper and back-to-back three-pointers. “The comfort level he feels with us, you could see it in the game. It’s the first time I ever got traded in the middle of the season, so it was new for me, but I’m excited that I’m here.”

NBA Scores: Kyrie Irving shines in Mavericks debut as Dallas wins ... (SB Nation)

Frankly, I can't possibly be expected to write coherent thoughts after the Kevin Durant trade; after all, I cover the Suns primarily.

Green was a +1 in the 2-point loss, one of just three Rockets with a positive mark for the game, though one of his four turnovers was key in Sacramento’s 7-0 run to close the game. Bam Adebayo starred with a game-high 38 points on an insanely efficient 12-16 FG (75.0%); it’s the second-highest total of his career. [may heat up even further on deadline day](https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1623579296441765888?s=20&t=o8RZkTLusUOa8Vi6BiUo1Q). It was a more star-oriented effort for Philly, who saw Joel Embiid and James Harden combine for 54 points on 19-35 (54.3%). No matter though as they shot the cover off the ball, 40-76 (52.6%) overall and 19-35 (54.3%) from deep. Jarrett Allen led all scorers with 20 (9-13 FG) to go with his 15 rebounds.

Kyrie Irving savours 'incredible' Dallas debut as Mavericks cut down ... (sportsmax.tv)

An NBA champion alongside LeBron James seven years ago with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Irving joined the Mavericks this week after a stint with the Brooklyn Nets.

"He just gave us that confidence. It was the first time I ever got traded in the middle of the season, so it was new for me. "It's simple when you play with guys that are selfless and do the little things, and they don't mind other guys being aggressive out there. That's the way the game should be played, a very fast pace, and just doing the little things, details to win. "It just felt good to get this debut out of the way. They made their runs, but we made everything tough.

Clippers vs. Mavericks Recap: A Spiritless Effort • 213hoops.com (213 Hoops)

The Clippers fell at home 110-104 to the Kyrie Irving-led Dallas Mavericks in a game they never led. Keep reading for a brief recap of the game. RECAP.

Whatever the Clippers do, they’re going to have some ground to make up considering other teams in the West have And what a sad way for it to end. Neither cracked my list for the Top 5 performers of this game, and for the Clippers, that’ll always be a problem. Meanwhile, Leonard essentially showed up for one quarter of this game and finished with only 18 points on 12 total shots in the game. Much like what we’ve seen recently, neither Paul George nor Kawhi Leonard was able to put points on the board during the fourth when the Clippers needed to stay in the game (lots of open shots by role players were missed, too), Ty Lue opted to remove Ivica Zubac from the floor to go small, and as always against Dallas, double-teams on the ball and slow rotations out of them allowed the Mavericks to capitalize from deep and put the nail in the coffin. Keep reading for a brief recap of the game.

Irving returned after posting an apology on Instagram, but he had deleted the apology prior to his introductory press conference as a member of the Mavericks. Most recently, Irving was suspended for eight games with the Nets after he promoted an antisemitic film on social media and then refused to condemn antisemitism when speaking to reporters. All in all, it wasn't a debut for the ages, but Irving did enough to get Mavs fans excited about his partnership with Dončić. Head coach Jason Kidd left the door open for the four-time All-Star to return for one of those two contests. I can play off the ball, I can cut." Dallas Mavericks stand pat on 2023 trade deadline day (The Smoking Cuban)

The Dallas Mavericks traded for Kyrie Irving on Sunday afternoon, but they were quiet on deadline day as they failed to make a move.

The Dallas Mavericks could still upgrade their roster via the buyout market. Can they find a rotation piece on the buyout market? The trade for Irving limited what the Mavericks could do, but it was surprising to see Dallas stand pat with multiple holes on their roster. It made sense for Dallas to upgrade at the five after their offseason signing of JaVale McGee has not worked out. Dallas traded their best perimeter defender to land Irving, and they failed to find a replacement before Thursday’s deadline. The Mavs could not find a way to fill them on a wild and crazy deadline day that saw several Western Conference playoff contenders upgrade their rosters.
