Ross signed a 4-year, $54 million deal with the Magic back in 2019 with an annual salary of $13.5 million. In return, the player becomes a free agent and can then choose whichever team he wants to continue his career in. So far this season, Ross has been averaging 8.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists over 42 games.

New owner Mat Ishbia and head coach Monty Williams convinced Ross to come to Phoenix.

Ross will help replace some of the wing depth the Suns had to send to Brooklyn in the Durant trade. Earlier in the day, Wojnarowski reported that the Mavericks were the frontrunners to add Ross, but he says that changed when new Suns owner Mat Ishbia and coach Monty Williams got involved. The Suns continue to load up after trading for Kevin Durant. Now, they got some much-needed depth by securing the services of Terrence Ross.

Ross averaged 8.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 42 games for the Magic this 2022-23, albeit in a limited role as Orlando focuses on its youth development. His arrival in Phoenix certainly improves the Suns’ title chances even more. It’s hard to blame Terrence Ross for choosing the Suns over the Mavs, though.

Ross plans to sign with the Suns once he and the Magic finalize a buyout of his contract later this week, Adrian Wojnarowksi of ESPN reports.

At the time news of Ross' impending buyout emerged Saturday, the Mavericks were viewed as the frontrunner for the 32-year-old perimeter sniper, but the Suns' depleted depth on the wing in the wake of the team's trade for Kevin Durant (knee) likely provided a more compelling case for Ross to continue his career in Phoenix. Expect Ross to settle into a consistent second-unit role for Phoenix, though he's unlikely to garner enough playing time to warrant interest outside of deeper fantasy leagues so long as Devin Booker is healthy. Since Ross carries a $11.5 million cap hit in 2022-23, he's not a candidate to get claimed off waivers once the buyout agreement is reached, thereby clearing the way for him to join the Suns on a more team-friendly deal.
