The latest episode of The Mandalorin, The Mines of Mandalore, introduces a new Star Wars creature to the screen - the Mythosaur.
There are eight episodes in the current season and they will be released weekly. As she saves Din, Bo-Katan gets a closer look at the creature that grabbed Din and realises that it is a Mythosaur, a species believed to be long extinct. Din is captured by the crab creature which begins to harvest his blood - Grogu leaves Mandalore to enlist Bo-Katan’s help in a rescue mission. On arriving at the homeworld of his people, Din encounters several hostile residents including a group of Alamaites, who he dispatches with his darksaber, and a creature in a crablike metal exoskeleton. Mythosaurs are mentioned several times in the latest episode of The Mandalorian - Bo-Katan learns that the Mines of Mandalore used to be a Mythosaur lair, although she remains sceptical of the legends. Deadline caught up with Katee Sackhoff to discuss Bo-Katan's true intentions for the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 3.
Her outlook on the Star Wars universe is simple yet powerful - "All Star Wars is good Star Wars", a true testament to her undying love for this iconic franchise. After effortlessly proving herself as an exceptionally skilled warrior (and a natural with the Darksaber), Bo-Katan returns the Darksaber to Din Djarin. To say Bo-Katan is a natural with the Darksaber is an understatement. I think that is her problem is that she realizes that she’s not going to fight her people anymore. I think these are people who thought Bo would do anything to lead, that Bo would fight anyone to lead, and that’s what she wanted and that’s why they were following her. Bo-Katan has a connection to the Darksaber, having wielded it before when she ruled Mandalore.

[Grogu](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-wars-grogu-sequel-trilogy-era/) comes knocking in “The Mines of Mandalore.” And by the end of the episode, her faith in what she believes to be true — that the old warrior ways and rituals are just Mandalorian hokum — has been absolutely shaken by [the very real and alive mythosaur](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-wars-the-mandalorian-mythosaur-mandalore/) she encounters in the living waters of Mandalore. “They’re not following her anymore, which means she’s not a leader without the Darksaber, but she doesn’t know how to go about getting the Darksaber in such a way that’s going to result in her not losing her people…She says that they abandoned as soon as she returned without the Darksaber. [“The Mines of Mandalore,”](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-wars-the-mandalorian-season-3-episode-2-review/) Bo-Katan even briefly wields the Darksaber again to save Din from a biomechanical cyborg spider thing, but doesn’t try to lay claim to the weapon then, either. A sour Bo-Katan informs Din that the other members of her clan have abandoned her, gone off to work as bounty hunters, after she failed to secure the Darksaber. I think these are people who thought Bo would do anything to lead, that Bo would fight anyone to lead, and that’s what she wanted and that’s why they were following her. I think with Din — I don’t know if I’ll go as far as to say that she respects and trusts him — but she doesn’t not. This is a very different side of Bo-Katan than even where we left her in The Mandalorian season 2. Once she defeats Gideon and becomes the rightful wielder of the legendary blade, Bo-Katan will be able to use it to unite all the Mandalorian clans under her banner and retake Mandalore. But when Din finally pays a visit to Bo-Katan in You see, Bo-Katan used to carry the Darksaber and rule the Mandalorians before the Original Trilogy, but her claim to the weapon was technically illegitimate since she was offered the blade and didn’t fight anyone for it. But that’s not what ends up happening: instead, it’s Din Djarin who disarms Gideon in the season 2 finale and unknowingly wins the Darksaber, suddenly putting him first in line for the title of Mand’alor, the warrior leader of the Mandalorian people. While much of this played out in [The Clone Wars](https://www.denofgeek.com/star-wars-the-clone-wars/) animated series, Bo-Katan’s bad luck streak continues on [The Mandalorian](https://www.denofgeek.com/the-mandalorian/).
The Mandalorian goes back to Tatooine in Episode 2 on a very special night. What is Boonta Eve and how does it tie into the prequel trilogy?
There’s not much mention in any of the live-action appearances of Boonta Eve as to what exactly the Mos Eisley holiday is celebrating but from the books, we can gather that it’s in honor of Boonta Hestillic Shad’ruu, also referred to as Boonta the Hutt. What ultimately allowed Anakin to finally compete in the race was Qui-Gon Jin sensing the force in him and understanding that this wasn’t just a typical human. In his conversation with here, we learn a little bit more about this celebration, which is clearly one the locals love to partake in through races and trips to the Cantina. Dangerous in nature because of the speeds at which the vehicles traveled and the cutthroat competitiveness, Anakin’s mother, Shmi, was reluctant to let him race. In that movie, these were the vehicles that a young Anakin Skywalker would tinker around with and eventually use in races. As Episode 2 pans across Tatooine, it’s very clear that the two vehicles seen navigating the streets are the same pod racers we first saw in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
Lucasfilm has released a new TV spot for The Mandalorian, including a new look at yet-to-be-seen Imperial cloning expert Dr. Pershing.
When she isn't watching her friends and family's eyes glaze over at the mention of The Clone Wars, she's at the park with her dog, Melvin, or on the couch with a book in one hand and a drink in the other. The new image of Pershing is a different angle from a scene that was revealed in the trailer. It’s possible that Bo-Katan and Din will need those extra minutes to hash out a plan after the big reveal in episode 2. In the brief shot, Dr. Pershing in a large city, looking up at the sky with interest. The last time we saw Dr.
The latest episode of The Mandalorian features plenty of nods and references for Star Wars fans to find.
Mandalore the Great was a true conqueror for a reason. The wingspan and sharp edges of this ship make for a fearsome appearance when traversing the galaxy. Yet another mention is provided to Star Wars audiences about Mandalore the Great. This ship is known as the Gauntlet, and has a very distinct style, with great speed and Hyperdrive. It’s great to know that characters like Bo-Katan have carried on the history they share with the Jedi before Order 66. What’s interesting about Concordia is the fact that it had been seen before, as it was used as a base for the Death Watch. Not only does Din Djarin wield the Darksaber again, but Bo-Katan uses it to fight against a few enemies. Concordia has many secret hideouts since it was an old mining planet, and as the home to Din Djarin, there may be many secrets and histories on its surface. As such, fans did not expect to witness a living Mythosaur, dormant in the ruins of Mandalore The arrival of a Mythosaur could spell great or terrible things, considering their gigantic size and danger. The return of Mos Eisley is quite exciting considering that Tatooine has a new crime lord with Boba Fett. The sand planet features in almost every piece of Star Wars content, but once again appears in The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 2.

In Season 2, a zealous Bo-Katan had sought to reclaim the Jedi blade from the hands of “If [Djin] didn’t have the darksaber, he’s done nothing that would make him her enemy… She’s fought forever and she realises that doesn’t work.”

The second episode of The Mandalorian Season 3 sees Din Djarin join forces with a character who debuted in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.
After initially being discarded in A New Hope to make way for Luke Skywalker's heroic adventure, R5 may finally be getting his time in the spotlight on The Mandalorian. Not only is the planet a supposedly dangerous, uninhabitable wasteland after being bombarded by the Empire, but the mission involves R5 venturing beyond the familiar comfort of Tatooine for the first time. In-universe, R5 has been stuck on the desert planet for far longer than the time between A New Hope and The Mandalorian. The Great Purge of Mandalore and Night of a Thousand Tears caused the near genocide of the Mandalorian people in Star Wars. Here's when and why it happened.
In the years that followed, Bo-Katan and the Mandalorian resistance fought against the Empire until the Night of a Thousand Tears a.k.a. Even though many clans were eager to follow Bo-Katan, Din’s clan of religious extremists, the Children of the Watch, believed that she didn’t earn the right to wield the Darksaber since she didn’t win it in combat, and therefore cursed Mandalore to fall further into ruin. Bo-Katan lost the Darksaber in the chaos of the Great Purge, which is how Moff Gideon gained possession of the weapon. Led by Moff Gideon, the Empire bombed the domed cities of the planet until the desert sands crystallized. While she didn’t want to wield the weapon at first, she eventually decided to use the legendary blade to unite Mandalore against the Empire. [Clone Wars](https://www.denofgeek.com/star-wars-the-clone-wars/) in 19 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin), Bo-Katan Kryze had regained control of Mandalore from Darth Maul with the help of Ahsoka Tano and other Republic forces. In the During the time of [The Mandalorian](https://www.denofgeek.com/the-mandalorian/), the planet has been abandoned after being destroyed by the Galactic Empire in an event known as the Great Purge. Even though many clans remained loyal to Bo-Katan, they were weakenecd by years of civil wars fought before and during the Clone Wars. [A New Hope](https://www.denofgeek.com/star-wars-a-new-hope/) – and Mandalore is no exception. [Star Wars](https://www.denofgeek.com/star-wars/) history, Mandalore has long been ravaged by conflicts that have devastated the planet. While Din Djarin’s journey to the surface of the planet in The Mandalorian season 3 episode [“The Mines of Mandalore”](https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-wars-the-mandalorian-season-3-episode-2-review/) reveals that the surface isn’t as toxic as once thought, it still begs the question of how and why Mandalore was left a wasteland in the first place.
The Mandalorian season 3, episode 2 just helped answer why Din Djarin sometimes drowns in his armor while other Mandalorians—like Bo-Katan—don't.
In any case, Din turning on his suit’s pressurizer in The Mandalorian season 3, episode 2 helps dispel the mystery behind Mandalorian armor pressurization. When Din and Grogu visit Mandalore for the first time, Din tells Grogu that he will pressurize his armor in order to avoid exposing himself to the potentially deadly atmosphere. The Mandalorian season 3, episode 2 just proved that Mandalorian helmets do indeed seal at the neck, but that the feature must be switched on in order to activate. In The Mandalorian season 2, episode 6 Boba Fett uses his helmet’s rangefinder to guide his jetpack’s missile in hitting a drop-ship, showing how seamlessly the pieces work together. But on the other, Din Djarin has almost drowned on multiple occasions in The Mandalorian, despite wearing his helmet. From offensive weapons like whistling birds and Kamino saber darts to defensive tools like shield emitters, Mandalorian armor has been carefully honed to perfection to combat any enemy—especially the Jedi.
Star Wars is known for its creatures, and The Mandalorian's "The Mines of Mandalore might have just called back to A New Hope's freakiest monster.
It's one of the best parts of the franchise, and any time a new property comes out, fans can't wait to see what giant monster debuts. A New Hope started by showing the skeleton of a Krayt Dragon, and it later introduced the Dianoga. The Empire Strikes Back had the Wampa and the Exogorth worm, while Return of the Jedi had the Sarlacc. One theory is that the creature was a Dianoga, the same type of creature that nearly drowned Luke Skywalker inside the Death Star's trash compactor. The revelation of a live Mythosaur had fans ecstatic, and it could lead to Bo-Katan giving up her self-imposed exile. He was attacked by Alamites and a one-eyed, cyborg spider creature, and there was a Mythosaur involved.
