The folks at World Wrestling Entertainment are angling to bring the squared circle to the sports-gambling arena.

CNBC reported that WWE would hire an accounting firm to keep the results of scripted matches secret, and avoid leaks, thus boosting the integrity that it would need to mix it up in the booming sports-betting market. CNBC noted that the Academy Awards, with known results under lock-and-key of an accounting firm, can be gambled on, but WWE is wildly different, given, again, the scripted outcomes of the matches. MGCB officials said the WWE has made no such formal request.

So, in a mere matter of weeks, Bliss went from challenging Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship at Royal Rumble to disappearing altogether. It wasn’t much of a surprise, however, when Strowman returned after Triple H took over WWE’s creative team, as WWE really needed some more star power at the top of the card and “The Monster of All Monsters” has provided SmackDown with exactly that since returning. Since then, Morgan has adopted more of a daredevil persona and remains one of the most popular stars in all of WWE. Instead, Wyatt is headed for a big, albeit underwhelming,WrestleMania clash with Bobby Lashley while Bliss is nowhere to be found because she doesn’t really fit into that feud. That’s a shame, too, because WWE had the opportunity to strike gold with Ford following Elimination Chamber, but instead, the Street Profits have been put on ice as the focus of the tag team division has remained on Jey and Jimmy Uso. Strowman has actually settled in nicely to an upper micard role as a fan favorite, and it’s refreshing to see him featured heavily but not too heavily. But alas, WWE isn’t capitalizing on the growing popularity of Ford by booking him in a significant WrestleMania feud, which is undoubtedly a head-scratching move. It just feels so odd to see The New Day—even without Big E—stuck in no man’s land, especially considering that the trio once was Most of WWE’s high-profile female stars, including Belair, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch, are planned or confirmed for marquee matches, but one star who’s been left out to dry is Morgan, who was just the SmackDown Women’s Champion in October. 3 wrestlers you might be seeing for the last time at WWE WrestleMania (DailyO)

WrestleMania 39 could possibly be the last time we see star wrestlers like Brock Lesner, Edge and Rey Mysterio perform at the WWE mega-event.

Mysterio has not only achieved heights in his career as a wrestler, but he has also brought in and groomed his son Dominik Mysterio in the company. Most likely, Edge will lose the match to Balor at WrestleMania and he might be out of action for some time after the event. But the fact is, the match might just be a build up for Omos to take over the legacy of "The Beast" in WWE. Brock Lesnar: It might come as a surprise for many, but the fact is the company might be giving Brock Lesnar some time off and WrestleMania is the perfect event for it. Edge: The Rated-R Superstar is having a great ride ever since he made a return to the ring in 2019. At this year's WrestleMania 39, there are going to be some great matches newcomers and veteran wrestlers squaring off in the ring.

If gambling on WWE matches is legalized, betting companies would still have to decide if they want to offer odds on them. There are all these conflicting narratives about whether or not Vince has gone back to controlling the creative aspects in the show or whether he’s just in it for financial and political control. But you certainly hear people tell you that it is not a close or intimate marriage, at least as of now. Do you think anybody’s going to want to buy the company, considering some of the baggage that comes with it – particularly McMahon himself? I hesitate because I didn’t say anything about that in the book – it’s all hearsay as far as I know. But his good friend in the White House decided to bungle Covid, and all of a sudden there’s no sporting events – right when the first season is starting. And that formula is something that America feels very ambiguously about – it’s enormously watched, but the people who are tastemakers generally looked down on wrestling or, at best, write about it with some degree of shame that they liked it. The announcer was very much just a character who was more of a cipher than anything else. I think that would be obvious to anybody who has watched the programming that this is not somebody who sets out to be didactic and teach people to be better. I reached out to their publicist the day before the book was announced, just to give them a courtesy heads-up in the hopes that they might want to give me at least a little access to some things or somebody. T hosted “Saturday Night Live.” That was just because there was a last-minute cancellation from the host [comic Steve Landesberg] and Dick Ebersole, who knew Vince called him up and said, “Let’s have some of your talent on here.” If the original host didn’t have to cancel, things would have gone very differently. I was brainstorming with her and one of us said, “What about Vince McMahon as a biography subject?” I don’t remember which one of us, but we were saying that’s a really compelling idea that hasn’t really been studied in the proper way yet. As a business leader, McMahon has generated a surplus number of scandals and setbacks, including a 1993 federal indictment that alleged he supplied illegal anabolic steroids to his professional wrestlers – he was acquitted in a jury trial.

WWE betting proposal pushes for legalization (Business Insider)

WWE betting pushed as the wrestling conglomerate has reportedly spoken to state regulators, lobbying to legalize betting on scripted matches.

Colorado's gaming division told CNBC it is not considering legalizing the bets, and said it currently has a statute that prohibits betting on events like the Oscars. Under WWE's new proposal, it will keep the results of events secret for months by working with an accounting firm. In the few states where it's legal, some sportsbooks like DraftKings and FanDuel allow betting on events like the Oscars in their mobile app, CNBC reported. Michigan's gaming board said Thursday that it has not had direct conversations with WWE officials about legalizing the bets, and that it was approached by a third party "more than a year ago" about the idea, according to [draws millions](https://wrestlingnews.co/wwe-news/wwe-raw-3-6-23-ratings-increase-for-john-cenas-return) of viewers to its scripted matches is arguing that people in some states bet on events that have predetermined outcomes similar to the Oscars or other award shows, [according to CNBC](https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/08/wwe-betting-scripted-match-results.html). - WWE has presented betting on other events where results are predetermined like the Oscars as a comparable example.

"The Colorado Division of Gaming is not currently and has not considered allowing sports betting wagers on WWE matches," they said. The legal gambling industry puts a premium on avoiding scandal. "At no time has any state gaming regulator in Colorado spoken with the WWE about including wagers on our approved wager list." Colorado statute forbids "wagers on events with fixed or predicted outcomes or purely by chance," and that includes the Academy Awards. John Cena defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania would be the same as Brock Lesnar defeating him. This would’ve been the start of an ultimate heel run for John Cena, and I believe this could have been the best version of John Cena. I understand, but this would have been the best opportunity to turn John Cena heel. The Undertaker had nearly nothing left in the tank, and Roman Reigns was the top guy in the company. They did have a match at WrestleMania the year after The Undertaker lost to Brock Lesnar, but Wyatt couldn’t pick up the victory. Still, these superstars could have benefitted more from ending The Undertaker’s streak. Bray Wyatt has had a few nicknames during his time in WWE, but for a while, he was calling himself the “New Face of Fear.” As The Undertaker began to slow down and wasn’t competing full-time anymore, Bray Wyatt stepped up as the new spooky, creepy guy on the roster. It’s a shame that Roman Reigns beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 means nothing. Nothing but pure shock was on the faces of WWE fans as the camera showed the crowd. Fans would speculate who would step up to face The Undertaker each year. WWE took advantage of Lesnar’s victory and set him up for a monster run over the next few years. Eventually, fans started to believe the streak would never be broken, and they were perfectly fine with that.

I think having an Intercontinental Championship, having a North American Championship for the women would be something, you know, a huge leap forward for the women’s division and wrestling in general.” There’s no better time to debut a new mid-card championship for the women’s division than now. Do you think WWE should introduce a Women’s Intercontinental Championship? You have the storylines that are going for the women’s titles, but the rest are just little stories in the mix. It may be time for WWE to introduce another women’s championship. I believe coming up with a mid-card championship for the women’s division would give a bigger spotlight to the superstars who aren’t in the main event scene. Introducing a new championship gives a direction for these superstars and allows them to get more television time as well. It took WWE a long time to introduce the Women’s Tag Team Championship. Unfortunately, WWE has done a terrible job booking the tag team championships. “It would be nice to have another title but I think it’s just gonna take time.
