Rail union, RMT has written to all SNP leadership candidates asking for their support four key pledges for the railway going forward.
"The Scottish Government has made recent progress on rail, including bringing both ScotRail and Caledonian Sleeper into public ownership. Tube and train strikes are going ahead this week despite RMT union suspending the Network Rail walkout.

Intercity routes operated by LNER will be severely reduced, with last trains departing in the early afternoon, while Avanti, GWR and East Midlands will run hourly intercity services. Train operators said they would “pull out all the stops” with contingency staff to keep as much running as possible. Disruption could persist early on Friday, while a second strike will take place on Saturday.

Tickets for March 30 and April 1 can be used on the day before or up to and including April 4. Tickets for tomorrow and March 18 can be used on the day before or up to and including March 21. GWR has warned that tomorrow and on March 18, an extremely reduced service will operate on a limited number of routes, and parts of the network will have the train no service at all.
A TRAIN operator in North Yorkshire has warned of the 'severe disruption' that this week's strikes are set to bring.
TPE has urged those travelling on strike days to checks their journey carefully and allows plenty of extra time as any trains that do run will be very busy, and further disruption is possible. For those that have to travel on strike days, TPE will be running a reduced timetable on three routes, Huddersfield - York, Manchester Airport - Preston, and Sheffield - Cleethorpes. Due to the different signalling system in use on some parts of the West Coast Main Line, which is more resource-intensive to operate, the intercity operator is unable to stop trains at Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield which will not be open.
