ICC prosecutor says world needs 'stamina' to get justice for Ukraine (The Guardian)

Court issued warrant for Putin and his children's commissioner over forcible transfer of Ukrainian children.

This needs to be a moment when we realise if we do not cling to the law we may have nothing to cling to in the future. In a message to Putin, Khan said: “I say repatriate the children, return the children, reunite the children. Urging his audience of as many as 40 mainly western justice ministers to realise what was at stake, he said: “If we don’t in this moment in world affairs cling to the law, we will not only miss an opportunity, we may not have further opportunities. Khan said “apolitical evidence-led investigation is the hallmark of my office and the absolute indispensable element of any judicial process that stands the test of time”. “It is not a moment for backslapping. Defending himself from the charge of double standards or western hypocrisy, Khan said: “What we oppose are actions that have been deemed criminal since Nuremberg …

An ICC warrant against Putin is good – and hypocritical (Aljazeera.com)

It's good that the ICC has charged Putin with war crimes. But what about the blood on the hands of the US and Israel?

The Pentagon also believes that if it gives the ICC stuff that may help prove that Putin is a bad guy who does bad stuff to good people, it might lead to America’s “good guys” in battle fatigues ending up in the same dock in the Hague because the court might suddenly discover that they have done lots of bad stuff to good people, too. Translation: Yes, the Pentagon believes that Putin is a bad guy who has done bad things to good people in Ukraine. “The United States firmly opposes and is deeply disappointed by this decision,” Blinken howled. It’s good that the ICC has charged Putin with war crimes. Of course, like Putin, the US and Israel would dismiss any charges instantly as having no legal merit. Let the Americans and Israelis wail like colicky babies, too.

One can imagine that Putin’s reduced ‘ [global outlaw](https://cepa.org/article/putin-becomes-a-global-outlaw/)’ status and his toxicity as a war crime suspect, along with his growing international isolation and the increased cost of being associated with him, would contribute to the split of business and political elites. He will surely avoid visits to countries where he could be arrested, or seek to obtain advance guarantees of non-arrest from his hosts, which would potentially be problematic and inconsistent with the obligations States Parties have under the Statute. As noted, the text of the Putin and Lvova-Belova warrants and related filings are not yet in the public domain. Therefore, any such country on the territory of which the person is found may also be requested by the ICC to cooperate by arresting and surrendering that person, and it may well choose or even be obliged to do so to do so under said arrangement or agreement. Legal experts ask ICC to probe Turkey's crimes against humanity (Armenian Weekly)

Several newspapers announced earlier this month that a major complaint has been submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Turkey.

In an arrogant demonstration of impunity, the published image of the abducted person showed clear signs of torture, and he later underwent surgery to treat his broken arm.” Both the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention had concluded that a large portion of the imprisonments and detentions by Turkey were a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights. The complaint states that there were 17 cases of enforced disappearance in which victims were abducted from Kenya, Cambodia, Gabon, Albania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Mongolia and Switzerland and taken back to Turkey. Most recently, in July 2021, President Erdogan gave a press conference next to an image of a Turkish teacher proclaiming that he had been abducted from a foreign country. “These crimes amount to a ‘widespread and systematic attack against a civilian population’, meeting the threshold for the ICC to launch proceedings against high ranking officials of the Erdogan regime.” Several newspapers announced earlier this month that a major complaint has been submitted to the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Turkey.
