A 2022 report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies demonstrated the volatility around the offence, even when not proven, when it revealed that “as many as 89 citizens have been killed in 1,415 accusations and cases of blasphemy” since 1947. Zeeshan was convicted under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act and Anti-Terrorist Act (ATA) on Friday, March 24. Following the allegations, he was arrested in the year 2021 and has been lodged inside the Peshawar Central Prison ever since.
