Palm Sunday is a nod to Easter Sunday, said Mark Jobe, president of the Moody Bible Institute. It's a celebration of Jesus dying and rising again.

"It is a time of celebration," she said. "Traditionally, some of the branches are saved," she said. They are saved and when you get to Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent, the ashes come from those burnt palm branches." "The first chapter in Genesis talks about how God created the world," she told USA TODAY. "It wasn't something unique to Jesus," he told USA TODAY. The ceremony wasn't introduced to Western Christianity until about the 9th century.

So, our procession with palms and our participation in the reading of Matthew’s long Passion account today is a walk in faith, step by step, deeper and deeper into our own commitment to share in the mystery of the cross in order to know the meaning of the resurrection. The memory of Jesus’ Passion is a living call to follow him in our own time, whatever the cost. The Passion we read today is rich in details, beginning with Jesus’ agony in the garden, his betrayal by Judas, the flight of the disciples and the triple denial of Peter. He revealed God’s way of drawing history toward the Beloved Community of justice and love. on a tractor to clean up the government and save the world. The man on the donkey pays the ultimate price for his insolence and presumption.

The congressman declared that we have gone as far as we can with guns. Then, with a weak voice, she whispered to me that all she wants is to go to heaven. On my leaving her bedside, a health care aide acknowledged to me the difficulty of moments like these. Life, he taught, has an eternal quality that transcends the fears and struggles of the present. His life embodied the promise that God always leads his people to a better place. Herein we read that when the days drew near for Jesus to be taken up, Jesus set his face to go to Jerusalem and publicly challenge the Roman emperor’s self-description as Son of God. From the moment of his birth, Jesus was targeted for death by the mighty Empire of Rome. This is the crux of Jesus’ life and also of the Christian’s faith mirrored in many ways by those who seek the Holy One in different religious traditions. She was significantly weakened by her 95 years and was without sight. He talked about a new kingdom where the poor and powerless find hope and something called eternal life. On Palm Sunday, Christians recall Jesus’ triumphal entry to Jerusalem initiating a series of events culminating in his execution. It was only the second dove that later returned with a twig signifying the receding waters.

The central message of Palm Sunday is the celebration of Jesus’ death and resurrection, which, according to Bishop Vashti McKenzie, is a reminder that Jesus died for all of humanity and not just a few. Palm Sunday is an important event in the Christian calendar celebrated worldwide. The first recorded celebrations of Palm Sunday were in the 4th century in Jerusalem, according to Jobe. The branches are blessed and often taken home to be preserved on shelves or desks as a reminder of the event. Kings and conquering warriors were often greeted with palm branches thrown in front of them, and winners of Grecian games were also commonly presented with them. Christians worldwide are preparing for Palm Sunday, which commemorates the last days of Jesus, including his trial and crucifixion.

May our prayer and devotions lead us to a concrete mission. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). Homily for Palm Sunday Mass 2023 (Diocese of Westminster)

Holy Week begins. Our first act is this procession of the palms, remembering and recreating the entry of our Blessed Lord into the holy city of Jerusalem.

In the ashes we received, and in the palm which we hold, we are embracing our frailty and seeking mercy. Statues of martyrs, such as those of St John Fisher and St Thomas More, include a palm branch. The ashes we received on Ash Wednesday were the ashes of burned palms. We take it home and keep it, as a reminder of our faith. But we also carry the palm in another way, in another form. The moment has been presented to us in the passage we have just heard from the Gospel of St Matthew.

The meaning of “The Pasture” seems to show that our lives are kind of simple. It’s the same kind of feeling that Elizabeth and I, and her deceased brother, used to feel as we walked with him around the Wilson Medical Center track on the grounds of the former Wilson Memorial Hospital. But the possible meaning between the opening and closing can give one pause as they reflect on the meaning of Palm Sunday. As I write this column, here is a Palm Sunday poem for my family, written by me the day before our Catholic church’s Palm Sunday. We always made sure we had at least three, symbolizing the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. On Palm Sunday, March 30, 1958, I was given my King James version of the Holy Bible.
