The recent issues of Wasp took Janet van Dyne back to her first case to give the character a chance to shine without her former husband, Hank Pym.
But having been given the chance to go back and prove that to herself, this Avenger has just taken a huge step out of the shadows of the past towards a bright new future. It is a clever way of bringing forward the best of the past while leaving the bad back where it belonged. With an opportunity to solve the case of her fatherโs murder on her own, she gets to take control of her narrative and erase Henry. When Janet and her stepdaughter, Nadia, are attacked by Whirlwind in Wasp #1 (by Al Ewing, Kasia Nie, KJ Diaz and Cory Petit), it sets the pair off on a trail that leads them back to Janetโs very first case. However, now that Janet is moving forward with her life, both she and Marvel Comics are attempting to put the past behind them and gain some distance from the controversial legacy of Dr. But despite her long history of heroism, her origin is still tied to the problematic past of her former husband.
